Narrowing things down

Post by Gob »

A house in Padstow which is narrower than a London bus has gone on sale - for almost £430,000.

Image

The property, which is located on Duke Street near to Padstow Harbour, includes two double bedrooms and one bathroom.

The home is currently being advertised on Rightmove for £429,995 and is incredibly quaint.

It's painted blue, has a white-tiled bathroom and blue-tiled kitchen to match its exterior.

Has it captured your interest? Well, there's a catch.

The widest part of the home, which is the master bedroom, is 8ft 2 inches, smaller than New Routemaster buses in London, which are 8 ft 3 1⁄4 inches wide.

The Rightmove listing says: "Superbly presented and delightful, this iconic cottage offers modern conveniences without taking the charm and period features away.

In a two dimensional world, that could be just the thing.

It was....  until someone realized that they could probably get $500/month renting it as a 'tiny house'.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Kinda cool. How did a French poilu get in there?

And don't say through the door . . .

Now the Welsh are at it.
A rundown one-bedroom house that's just seven-foot wide in a Welsh tourist spot has hit the market for £150,000.

The property - dubbed a 'bijou bolt hole' by estate agents - is set back from the road at the end of a long front garden in Mumbles, on the outskirts of Swansea.

It is made up of just four rooms - a lounge, kitchen and dining room, a bedroom and a bathroom.

The listing states it needs 'some upgrading', but 'presents a fantastic opportunity' for a buyer willing to put in the elbow grease.

The house is just a stones throw from the beach in Mumbles - a coastal tourist hotspot - where house prices average over £300,000.

Looks as if it longs to tear itself free and sail away

Bijou and compact, would suit DIY enthusiast.
A tiny hut in a car park just yards from a Devon beach has gone up for sale for a whopping £45,000.

Image

The freehold hut is within just a few meters of Teignmouth's Back Beach and has been in the same family ownership for 90 years.

It is on sale for £45,000 - but that doesn't include the river beach hut it's attached to.

Estate agent Bradleys of Teignmouth said it has had serious interest in the hut on the Lower Point Car Park.

James Carden of Bradleys said: 'It's literally ten yards from the beach - you walk out the door and you're on it.

I don't see what all the tiny house fuss is about. For six years I lived (with a rommate!) in a Philadelphia "trinity house": three floors, each about 12 x 12, one room on each floor (second floor had a bathroom as well as a bedroom). Here is a recent photo of our block, almost all of which was trinity houses:

Image

It's been cleaned up considerably in the years since I lived there -- in those days the neighborhood was considered "distressed." But I remember when the first yuppies* actually bought (!) a house down the block, we all said "there goes the neighborhood."

___________
* The term "yuppies" hadn't actually been invented yet; we called them "the junior executives."
GAH!
