Meet his Australian cousin..

HE'S just 15 years old, 168 centimetres tall and, oh, about 55 kilograms wringing wet. And he's a one-kid crime wave. On Thursday, he was in Bidura Children's Court in Glebe. Again.

The Sun-Herald has learnt that he first came to the attention of Glebe police at seven. The boy, who can't be named for legal reasons, has since been charged with offences ranging from stealing, affray, assault and, more recently and most seriously, with stealing cars and then speeding away from pursuing police.

In the latest instalment of his short, turbulent life, while most of his peers were at school sweating over their NAPLAN test, he was in court, watching his legal aid lawyer fight a police application to obtain his DNA.

Advertisement: Story continues below They want to match it to blood found at what they say is the boy's latest crime scene. That blood was left on the wheel of the stolen Subaru he was allegedly driving when - under police pursuit - it crashed into a Mazda on the evening of Sunday, April 10.

Locals in Glebe believe the boy has led police on as many as 15 pursuits. Police fear he could kill an innocent bystander, or himself, or both. They told the court they feared such a tragedy could spark a riot similar to those at Macquarie Fields and Redfern when some locals blamed police pursuits for the deaths of teenagers.

According to Bidura court documents, in 2007, 2008 and last year, the boy breached his bail no less than 18 times. He has escaped from the Department of Community Services and Juvenile Justice, sometimes ''within minutes'' of being placed in their custody. Once he evaded police, Oliver Twist-like, by escaping across rooftops.

On Thursday, Detective Superintendent Steve Blackmore and at least three of his detectives spent the entire day - in and out of court - ensuring their application would succeed.

The boy and his dad sat on one side of the small room, police on the other. A faint smile sometimes crossed the boy's face. His father told The Sun-Herald outside that his son was being harassed. Yes, he said, his boy had his problems, but he was trying really hard to change his ways, by playing rugby league and going to school two days a week.
