That mental Lezza's living with a nutty poof!

Post by Gob »

'Nutter', 'poof' and 'queer' can be used at any time of the day, 'mental' and 'lezza' are also socially acceptable, while 'bitch', 'wanker' and 'shit' are only fine after 9pm.

New research shows Britons have relaxed their attitudes towards swearing and bad language on television in the past five years, The Guardian newspaper reports.

UK media regulator Ofcom has found people are willing to tolerate mild swearing and offensive language at any time of the day.

Study participants were shown clips from a range of programs and radio shows, including Gordon Ramsay's Great British Nightmare, which features the foul-mouthed English chef swearing 243 times in 103 minutes.

Ofcom, which is responsible for policing taste and decency on the airwaves, found that words like 'loony', 'nutter', 'poof' and 'queer' could be used at any time on TV.

Many terms that might have prompted complaints in the past, such as 'mental', 'lezza' and 'Jesus Christ', have moved from Ofcom's list of unacceptable words and into the socially acceptable category.

Viewers were relaxed about stronger terms like 'bitch', 'wanker' and 'shit' being used after 9pm, and were willing to hear them earlier in some circumstances.

The F-word and the C-word were considered the most unacceptable, but very few respondents objected to their use after 9pm.

I've noticed the hard core language that now is broadcast regularly.

Language always changes. This will be known as our "sweary-period".
Bah!

Interestingly, subtitles are censored...

As you know, since working directly with elected representatives my language has become ... everso potty.

These are men (and women) who are having a direct effect on our future. Of course language is going to reflect their administration of us.
Bah!

Oddly enough it's just the opposite here If you watch a show which is subtitled for the hearing impaired more often than not you'll get a non censored subtitle.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
