Playing Catchup

Post by kristina »

or Ketchup, or Castup....

This morning I was an hour early for an appointment, and so had time to take myself out for breakfast. Nicely cooked eggs, an English muffin, very tasty potatoes, good coffee. Yum.

Unlike almost every restaurant I've ever been to where ketchup might be served, they serve their ketchup in a small straight-sided jar with a lid and a spoon for serving. NOT in a glass narrow-necked bottle which never lets you get the desired quantity and makes you risk wearing that which you would rather have eaten. NOT in a tacky red plastic squeeze bottle which makes embarassing sounds when they haven't filled it recently. A simple, elegant little jar.

LJ, if you haven't been to this place, give it a try -- it's called "Eats", on the corner of 2nd and Clement.

Was it home made or bought in?

I didn't ask, but it was good ketchup! They also brought a teeny tiny scone with homemade blackberry jam with the menu and coffee. Delicious.

I believe that is the Miss Manners way of serving the red stuff.

Did they have biscuits and gravy? 8-)

It might be proper, but it sure is wasteful. You can never get it all back into the bottle.

I wonder how often they refill those cute little containers. Or change out the spoons.
