It's Brady, but not JUST Brady. Remember: they managed an 11-5 season with Matt Cassel as quarterback!oldr_n_wsr wrote:I know your pain, I'm a Jet fan. (thus the hate for the Pats, BB should have been my coach!!!!)I've stuck with the Rams through all
I do have to say that through all these years, BB consistently puts out a dominant team no matter what. Always in position to win the division and do damage in the playoffs. It sickens me.but then again, he does haveTom Brady, which he can thank the Jets for as they knocked Bledsoe out of the game thus giving Brady his shot

Re: Man, That Was A HELLUVA Quarter!
As I have been out and about and doing errands over the week, at the grocery store, the dry cleaners, our local coffee shop, the bank, the post office, Kinkos etc., I have encountered numerous local fans who to a man or woman all seem to take tomorrow's game against the Carolina Panthers for granted as a victory and are looking past the game to a possible match up with the Seahawks...
I think this is an unfortunate attitude, and I sincerely hope that it is not shared by the players or the coaches...
I think the Niners are the better team and should win, (the line on that game BTW, is only the Niners by one; by contrast the Colts are favored by 7 and a half.)
The Panthers were 12-4 in the regular season, and didn't get to where they are by being a a bunch of push overs, (or shleps, if you prefer)
It's when players start thinking that a team is going to be easy to beat, and start looking past them to another game against a stronger opponent, that upsets happen...

They also beat the 49ers in the regular season this year.Lord Jim wrote: The Panthers were 12-4 in the regular season, and didn't get to where they are by being a a bunch of push overs, (or shleps, if you prefer)....
It will no doubt be a tense game for fans (excluding Redskin fans of course)
Re: Man, That Was A HELLUVA Quarter!
As I've said before Joe, I always root for the Niners if the 'Skins are out of it. (Which happens all too frequently
) The Niners are my second team, I like the effect that the Niners doing well has on the ambiance of the area, and despite my best efforts, I also appear to be raising Niners fans...(I tried to make Tati a Redskins fan and pretty much failed; I guess it only makes sense; she's been born and raised here, and all her friends are Niner fans. The same thing is already happening with Jimmy.)
All of that having been said, if the Niners go down tomorrow will it drive me into the sort of deep despondency that a Redskins defeat in a similar situation would?
I won't be happy about it but no, probably not....
I certainly won't be as depressed as born and raised natives who feel about the team the way I do about the 'Skins...

One thing I'm hoping for in the NFC playoffs is better officiating; for some reason the refs seemed perfectly content to let the seatlle defense hold the NO receivers again and again without calling pass interference.
Re: Man, That Was A HELLUVA Quarter!
They allowed the same thing in the Green Bay/San Francisco game last week, but I attributed that to the -10 degree wind/chill and the refs wanting to get the game over with as early as possible. You are right that this should be stopped; it is the equivalent of the "bad boys" Detroit Pistons of the 1980s NBA who grabbed and held all over the court, every single play, and dared the refs to call all the fouls. It led to an uglier and less enjoyable game.

I bet you like the modern game of men's tennis with two big blokes equipped with two enormously big raquets bashing the ball back and forth from the baseline as well!Long Run wrote: the "bad boys" Detroit Pistons of the 1980s NBA . . . grabbed and held all over the court, every single play, and dared the refs to call all the fouls. I still remember that...Brodie to Gene Washington for 78 yards put the Skins out of it . . . 12/26/71.

Re: Man, That Was A HELLUVA Quarter!
The Niners offense sputtered in the first half, but fortunately the defense rose to the occasion with two goal line stands that the Panthers only came away from with a total of 3 points. (Had that not been the case, things really could have turned ugly.) But starting with that touchdown at the end of the first half the momentum shifted, and the game was never really in doubt after that...
The Saints certainly have nothing to be ashamed of for their performance, and the Chargers showed great poise with their fourth quarter rally, falling just short...
As for the Colts- Pats game...
Well, I'm too much of a gentleman to comment on that one....

anyone but the Pats
Re: Man, That Was A HELLUVA Quarter!
Brady is a great QB. It's just that due to the rules of rivalry I can't root for his team.
Besides this might be Peyton's last shot at a ring so GO BRONCOS!

Brady is an excellent quarterback, but I give much of the credit to the coaching of Belicheck and his staff. I'd much rather have a great coach and a good player, than the other way around. Quarterbacks can do much to advance the team, but it is the game plan of the coaching staff that wins games IMHO.
Of course, he is also a sore loser who refuses to talk to the press after a loss (like last year).
