Re: last of the summer wine
I ve pretty much everything on your list jim, gob s list? only fawlty towers
Re: last of the summer wine
I like the Yorkshire based stuff a lot. absolutely fabulous, not so much
Re: last of the summer wine
I thought Absolutely Fabulous was hysterical...
The one I never got at all, (though my father was a big fan) was Benny Hill...
The show seemed to have basically three jokes; let's look up a woman's dress, let's look down a woman's blouse, and for a change of pace we'll knock an old man on the head...
Ripping good stuff, that...
I uncovered an interesting little factoid about Waiting For God earlier this morning...
Stephanie Cole, the actress who played the lead character, Diana Trent, was playing way above her actual age...
She was born in 1941 and the series ran from 1990-1994, so she was only in her early 50s...
She was actually only 14 years older than the actor (Daniel Hill) who played the insufferable Harvey Bains..
Her co-star, the late Graham Crowden (he passed away in 2010) by contrast was born in 1922, so he was much more "age appropriate" for his role...
He was 19 years older than her, but in the show you got the impression they were both in their mid 70's, maybe only a couple of years apart.

Re: last of the summer wine
I also see that they made 47 episodes of Waiting For God in just four years...
Wow, that's a bruising production schedule for a BBC series...
The show producers must have been real slave drivers to work the actors, writers, and crew so hard as to churn out a whole 12 episodes a year...
I'm surprised they weren't violating any Labor laws...

Re: last of the summer wine
they used to play benny hill at midnight on channel 20 , a DC station, on Saturday nights in the late 70s.
I was about 12 then and thought it was hilarious. I even got to see an occasional booby!
the old lady races were pretty original too...

Re: last of the summer wine
ms cole makes a few appearances in -open all hours- as well
Re: last of the summer wine
I've heard some of Hill's stand-up monologues and I found them to be much funnier. He did one bit about being a coal miner that's hilarious...
I grew up in Northern Virginia Wes, I remember Channel 20 well...
If you were watching that station at that time then you must also remember:

That is indeed Count Gore DeVol ...
Who also bears a suspicious resemblance to this guy, (Captain 20):

Also played "Aunty Joan" in "Doc Martin" a comedy drama which both you and Wes would enjoy.
She played Carolyn in "Cabin Pressure" the funniest radio sit-com in years.

No more open space here on Long Island. And if there is any, people yell at you to get out.Big RR wrote:Getting too old? Can't do those thing anymore.
I do still go snake hunting and fishing in Pa. Deer hunting has been in Maine so far but I am looking into getting a permit in Pa this year as it's close by. So no, I am not too old.
Re: last of the summer wine
Pretty good deer season in NJ as well; in fact, there are several, including an 8 pointer, on my lawn every evening that I'd be happy to let you hunt.

Re: last of the summer wine
How much land do you have? there is a minimum distance one can shoot a bow near a house. Don't know what it is for NJ.
Re: last of the summer wine
I don't know what the distance is and only have an acre, but if you're willing to chance it, the deer are yours.

Usually under township regulation.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
