The return of the light!
Re: The return of the light!
I'm still a bit terrified, but here it is the first business day of the new year and while not even officially open today, I just scored a DUI client (by word of mouth only) and a decent retainer!
2015 is going to be great - and until the SUN comes back to her full glory, I'm using my blue light every day for 45 minutes, on doctor's orders.

Well, you're never going to get more than one egg a day out of a chicken, and we only have skylight illumination in the coop. As for liking the person taking care of them while we were away, this year that was no one! (For Christmas we got an automatic door for the coop -- so no more imposing on the neighbors, and no more running out at the crack of dawn or in bad weather to open/close the door!) Maybe the chickens were channeling Greta Garbo?rubato wrote:Someone turned the lights on in the henhouse. Commercial layers are grown under lights because they only lay eggs when it is light. That's an auspicious start! On my first day out, the big case I was counting on to keep me afloat (100 hours of hourly billing!) collapsed under me in some courtroom shenanigans, and I was left shell-shocked and scrambling. On the other hand, having experienced the worst day possible, things could only get better -- and they have. Wishing you good luck and much success!bigskygal wrote:I'm still a bit terrified, but here it is the first business day of the new year and while not even officially open today, I just scored a DUI client (by word of mouth only) and a decent retainer!
GAH!

Thanks!
The best part of my day so far is, I loaded my dishwasher while talking to opposing counsel on another small civil matter I've already picked up.
The way I see it, I'll be 2x as productive working from home, as I can house/office clean while lawyering!

I wish you the best as well BSG; it's about 18 months I've been open on my own and, while I have good and bad days, I enjoy. Be productive when you have to be, and enjoy your leisure time when you can. Oh, and the best advice I can give you, keep a close eye on your cash flow and receivables (it's my least favorite part of the job, but it has to be done).

One egg every day and a half per chicken is more typical. But that is with midsummer day length.
Chickens are more Lucille Ball than Greta Garbo, in my experience.

Re: The return of the light!
in my town you may have hens, but not roosters. can you get decent eggs with only hens? I ve always wanted chickens but have never gotten them. I don t really know if I want to keep them now, they would have to stay in the coop at all times in town , I want happy chickens right up to point where mix them with dumplings...
I picked up eggs on a chicken farm one summer in my teen years. there were two chicken houses. the chickens in one house were much nicer than those in the other. in the bad house the roosters were constantly following you waiting for a chance to jump you from behind

Wes--I asked a friend of mine who grew up on a farm and she said hens lay eggs on the same schedule whether or not a rooster is present. the eggs will be the same (of course, if there is a rooster many will be fertilized and have a blood spot in the yolk). She also said a lot of times it is better not to have a rooster, as hens will only brood eggs if they have been fertilized by the rooster (a polite way of saying the obvious
).

I see. Well, when you're done, see if you can do something about the text-only thing...

The mercury climbed above 30 degrees in Canberra on Sunday but an afternoon thunderstorm gave the nation's capital a cooler afternoon.
It was a hot and humid start to Sunday with temperatures reaching 33 degrees about 1pm, Weatherzone meteorologist Ben McBurney said.
Sunday's maximum was a few degrees above the January average.
But the hot day was cooled down by some thunderstorms that rolled in about 2pm, bringing with it about 5 millimetres of rain.
There was also a chance of further storms in Canberra on Sunday night.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in the afternoon for most of New South Wales, including Berrima, Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Nowra and Colo.
However, the Bureau of Meteorology cancelled the warning about 8pm Sunday.
About 5pm, the Weather Bureau said the severe thunderstorms were moving north-east, with warnings that large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding were likely.

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.
