It could be the reason that Jenner waited till now is because his livelihood for four decades has been tied up in being "Bruce Jenner", and he didn't want to lose that. It's also possible that he waited till now because it's much more socially acceptable than it would have been earlier, or because he wanted to wait till his kids were grown, or some combination of all of these reasons.

It's also possible the whole thing is a publicity stunt to boost ratings for that awful show...I'm not prepared to rule that out yet.

No no, not that God awful show, but his own reality show documenting his transformation. An article in the NYTimes this morning said that when he told his family what he was doing, he had cameras rolling to document it.

It's one thing to bring facts and awareness to the subject of transitioning. That could be a good thing.

It's another to make it into a trashy publicity stunt designed to make money and appeal to nothing more than voyeurism.

I feel sorry for him whatever the circumstances - he cannot have been happy, either as someone he did not really feel he should be or as now a target for all kinds of speculation, doubt and confusion. May his motives be honest and pure and his future life secure.

Well.....did anybody watch Bruce's interview? Any thoughts?

I watched about an hour of it. He seems to be a nice person who has suffered for a long time. I can't relate to that kind of suffering and can't imagine how that would be for him.

Not so long ago - and even now in many people's minds - Jenner would would be considered mentally ill. I'm not sure what to make of it. He's not gay. He doesn't like men sexually but he is a woman emotionally. He was asked if that made him a lesbian. His response was (my paraphrasing) I'm not a lesbian. I am who I am....
