I feel you jim....
we have quite the hardheaded 13 yr old around here ourselves. guin and I have talked a bit and she has given me some good advice. simple but not easy.
she can put this hard look on her face when she doesn t get the outcome she deems proper, and she walks up the stairs and turns and glances at you with that face just as passes out of sight.... man, it s like the Dragonfear from the Hobbit sets in..... its scary.
I try not to get angry, with limited success, and try to do a good job of keeping holly from going all 13 yr old herself so that I don t have two of them in the house with me.
I try , and holly tries , to handle it with humour.
when she puts on that long hard face now, I call her Medusa and freeze in horror, in whatever position I happen to be in. sometimes I even try to simulate the siren song.
she s gotten a bit better about it....
but, after some struggles in sixth grade , she got her crap together last year in 7th, it started slow but she made honor roll in the last marking period, and kept herself in all her accelerated classes. she seems determined to be a successful student this year. we talk about the importance of school to her future and she seems to have gotten the fact that she controls her own future to a great extent, so that is good.
sounds like you were lucky enough, as was I, to get a daughter just like you.
poor us.
