Yeah, that was about my reaction.

Another place has a dude that buys a fifth of their cheapest vodka, a pint of cheap Bourbon, and a 40 of Busch every day.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.

Speaking of Genessee Cream Ale. Back in the day... I was drinking my fair share of this brew -- maybe 12/15 cans a day. After awhile I realized I was becoming warmer and more uncomfortable than I should, only to find out that it was thick cream ale sweat clogging my pores, and all with a yeasty stink to it.

Once I pinpointed this problem I gave up the Genessee and went back to my trusted Schlitz and the crazy sweats complete disappeared. You are what you... drink.

Think what you want, but it is absolutely true. I could drink "ALL" day, blow 3.5 BAC, and still drive safely. Alcoholics have more tolerance than social drinkers. Anyway, it was Genesee Cream Ale that almost did me in. BTW -- blue eyes, and my gray hair and my brown hair are about equal but the gray seems to be winning.

Check it out. Me and Paul Newman:
Shirley MacLaine, actor: Defied all the pitfalls of Hollywood
Paul Newman (“What a Way to Go,” 1964) is a really pleasant, but reticent friend. In real life, I’ve always had the feeling he wished he were somewhere else … racing cars probably. He enjoys speed and defying gravity. I watched him drink nearly a case of beer a day..."

I can testify to those facts.
Case of beer a day is quite common. So is a quart of alcohol. So is a magnum of wine. With a little bit of a nap (aka loss of consciousness) and you can double those for the day.

Took at least a pint to get to "normal", i.e. not shaking, walking straight, eyes open, etc. Hopefully that pint would last until the liquor store opened.
Sad times indeed.
Don't miss them.
Just don't touch my coffee.

And, if I can add -- your nicotine habit. You should give that up, too. All addictive substances, except healthy food, should be avoided when one is trying to end vexing, life impairing, dependencies.

Hey, jes' sayin', but it's true. Look at the stats.

You sound like my wife. :o
But of course you are both correct.
I am down to 3 cups of coffee a day. Two in the morning and one in the evening at a meeting. No meeting, no evening coffee.
Cigarettes are next.

What I was referring to, Ray, was your claim that "I was becoming warmer and more uncomfortable than I should, only to find out that it was thick cream ale sweat clogging my pores, and all with a yeasty stink to it."

Alcohol is a diuretic and causes one to lose water; so if you were drinking that much in a day, blow a 0.35, and still drive safely (and that part I do believe; I've seen too many other people who can do more-or-less the same thing) I'd expect you to be more dehydrated and less likely to be able to sweat than anything else ... which would lead to the "warmer and uncomfortable" bit.

As for claiming you were sweating "thick cream ale sweat" with a "yeasty stink to it", that was probably a result of spilling the stuff on yourself :nana .

Ray must have had a good head
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Most of his life, Churchill drank a quart of whiskey a day, plus at least a pint of Champagne and often, a pint of wine.

And he lived to 90. :shrug

Yes I know it is a secondary source, but Hal Holbrook quoted Mark Twain as crediting his long life to never smoking cheap cigars--I never pay less than 10 dollars a barrel.

As to the ill effects of heavy coffee drinking, the research is very conflicted. The last I saw claimed it all depended on genetics. There are those who have particular gene combinations that will metabolize the beverage very quickly and suffer no ill effects, long or short term, from drinking quarts of the stuff daily.
