Reread what I quoted...it is not from the top of the oven.

I've mentioned before that during the early years of the lockdown, the bottom element of our oven expired in a shower of white heat, sparks and hellish noise. Parts of it split open. Weird.

But we've learned, after initially reverting to stove top and microwave, that in fact we can still cook baked potatoes, rack of lamb, pizza, what-have-you using the grill element (or broiler as the pagans call it). I'd not try a souffle.

That’s Episcopagan, please

My oven (the bottom - its gas) has been on the fritz for the last several years (real years, not pandemic years). It is good and dead now, of course.

My microwave gave up the ghost, it literally sighed and died, sometime last year-month.

I’m cooking with stovetop, ancient toaster oven, and broiler. I suppose its good I cannot bake, as I’d just eat it all, myself. No covid +19 for me!

My kitchen cooking appliance is configured thusly:

Top: Range
Middle: Oven
Bottom: Broiler

I also have a 1400w microwave, and a large toaster oven.

Am I alone in not owning a devils oven? (Microwave.)

Yes. Why would you deny yourself one of the most useful inventions of our life time (they only became small and affordable in the 1970's to allow general usage).

You need a new stove. (But you knew that.)

Of course. Haven't you noticed that the plastic trays of these melt over an open fire?

The only use for microwaves in my house is reheating food & beverage, making popcorn (but not the carcinogenic in-the-bag type, just kernels in a silicone bowl) and melting butter or coconut oil.

I have one with inverter technology which is allegedly better for cooking, but I have never cooked anything in the microwave except frozen burritos and Stouffers Swedish meatballs.

Pretty much what I use mine for as well; however, I'll also use it to defrost frozen food in a pinch.
