Re: Business idea
How about this as a product to be marketed to deer hunters: The “remote controlled dog” would be a device equipped with a video camera and a sound amplifying electronic ear. It would have sound muffled rubber tracks on which to crawl and be about the size of a dog. The deer hunter could sit in his deer stand and with the aid of an lap top remotely control it to flush deer in his direction.
Weather or not this would be hunting is beside the point; I thinks it would sell.

Deer dogs are expensive due to the breeding, training and care required. They require a lot of personal attention and the hunter can't see and hear what the dog is seeing and hearing. My device could be parked in the garage until one is ready to use it.
Correction: I think I might have made an assumption when I said deer dogs are expensive. I can't find anything to support that.

A part from the enormous expense and cognitive functions far inferior to that of a canine...

Re: Business idea
Do you really think that it would be that expensive? The main components would be video camera, audio preamp and amplifier and a remoter control simulator to those used in remote controlled air craft. It would need a transmitter too.dales wrote:A part from the enormous expense and cognitive functions far inferior to that of a canine...

How would your "dog" traverse rugged terrain?
Keep its balance?

The camera would have to stream audio and video back to the controller. That alone makes it a lot more expensive... not to mention the gyroscope, servo motors and general electrical stuff.
The batteries required to do all this and be able to traverse anything more than level ground would be pretty chunky. They would have to be distributed throughout the 'dog' for balance and for this reason they would have to be rechargeable... so wouldn't last too long.
The body would have to be low (to keep the centre of gravity close to the ground) but the mic and camera would need to be mounted on a high strut or you wouldn't see or hear anything. Unfortunately this means that if the 'dog' was moving at any angle away from horizontal all you would see would be the tops of trees and the sky... unless of course the camera was mounted on a fluid head servo/level controlled mount to keep it horizontal. A lot more expense there... not to mention the extra batteries...
Other than that it's a winner!

Re: Business idea
Why not attach a camera & microphone to a dog?
It would be cheaper than building a dog from the ground up.
Of course, in order to allow deer hunters to kill more deer and have more fun doing it, it would probably be much better if hunters were allowed to use deer killing air-drones and hand grenades and machine guns.

Re: Business idea
I would have thought using a dog would be In keeping with the skills of hunting?
Not only do you have to be a crack shot for a clean kill, but you have to have shown the skills required to train a dog to be able to flush out such huge beasts.
Sounds like you just want to shoot at things.
Try tin cans instead.

It would have a wide base, tracks and low center of gravity. The camera and disk would be mounted o an extendable boom.dales wrote:How would your "dog" traverse rugged terrain?

How much do four wheelers cost; every serious hunter has to have one of them?

Stick with your day job son, industrial design and engineering (along with cost analysis) is NOT your forte.

Going back to the OP... Strop, have you experimented with baking marmite bread yet? That sounds like a labour saving idea to me...

Yep, tried that, but haven't got the balance of the Marmite quite right yet!Sean wrote:Going back to the OP... Strop, have you experimented with baking marmite bread yet? That sounds like a labour saving idea to me...
