Toilet training
Re: Toilet training
Scooter read the article correctly. No one else appeared to bother to.
Gender identity is a complicated thing but if the child clearly identifies as female by 5-6 years (the current age, not 18 months, do try to read?) there is no reason not to use the girls bathroom.
The percentage of people who come out of the box differently in this respect is not large but it has always been there.

What part of "she started expressing herself as a girl at the age of 18 months" do you not understand?rubato wrote:Gender identity is a complicated thing but if the child clearly identifies as female by 5-6 years (the current age, not 18 months, do try to read?)....
You might want to read the article.

Once again rube demonstrates his mastery of the art of unintentional humor....
Rube, why do you insist on broadcasting your poor reading skills?
I know can't follow anything longer than two paragraphs, but this:
appears in the second sentence; normally even your feeble attention span allows you to get at least that far....according to her mother she started expressing herself as a girl at the age of 18 months.
There aren't any big words...I really don't see what your problem was....
Once again you show your unique flair for not only being wrong about something, but being an asshole about your wrongness.

Re: Toilet training
Apparently, scooter and I are the only two who read the article, or even it's opening sentence.
The child is, I would think obviously, a lot older than 18 months so the point at which her parent thought something was odd is immaterial at this point. The story begins with "A Six-year old U.S. girl".
Six years old, not 18 months, Six years.
Stupid. Rather amazingly so. And now x 2!

Re: Toilet training
Why? Surely if the parents had established and decided that from their perspective that the child was "a girl in a boy’s body" from 18 months, that would have coloured and conditioned their upbringing of the child, and may have reinforced "girl' behaviour, and established a mindset in the child at a very early and vulnerable age.rubato wrote: The child is, I would think obviously, a lot older than 18 months so the point at which her parent thought something was odd is immaterial at this point.
Coy was born a boy but according to her mother she started expressing herself as a girl at the age of 18 months.

Re: Toilet training
Based on your statements the opening sentence is the only part of the article that you read.rubato wrote:Apparently, scooter and I are the only two who read the article, or even it's opening sentence.
Scooter can speak for himself.
Yes, that's how journalists write articles. In this example, you are informed of the current age of child. Then the history is explained - which includes: ""she started expressing herself as a girl at the age of 18 months".rubato wrote:The child is, I would think obviously, a lot older than 18 months so the point at which her parent thought something was odd is immaterial at this point. Even a scientist who has never displayed any scientific knowledge should understand that.
Thank you for repeating your ignorant statement.rubato wrote:Six years old, not 18 months, Six years.

Re: Toilet training
I would still love to know how an 18 month old child 'expresses' himself as a girl... I'd like to know more about the parents. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are the types who would cross their fingers and hope that their progeny would turn out to be gay, trans-gender or something else equally interesting. My theory is that they saw their son playing with a barbie or something and jumped all over the trans-gender idea. They persuaded some quack to back them up and now they are fucking up their child's life just to show how progressive and cool they are.
Just my theory of course...

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Do you remember the episode of "Ab-Fab" when Edina found out Saffy was having a black geezer's baby? That is what this strikes me as.
Here goes;
When Edina discovers that John Johnson, the father of Saffy's baby is black, she is overjoyed, because she thinks a mixed-race baby is the greatest accessory, the "Chanel of babies." When Saffy tells John that she is pregnant, he replies that she should tell people that she is pregnant right away or people will think she is fat.

Re: Toilet training
That's a very, very legitimate point.Surely if the parents had established and decided that from their perspective that the child was "a girl in a boy’s body" from 18 months, that would have coloured and conditioned their upbringing of the child, and may have reinforced "girl' behaviour, and established a mindset in the child at a very early and vulnerable age.
Or maybe they always wanted a daughter....There are people that need their kids to be "special" in one form or another.
These are all legitimate questions and points which is why it's important to know a lot more about the parents; their history, how they reached their conclusions, the sequence of events, what they did and when, etc. (another question: before they found the doctor who declared their kid transgendered, did they take the child to any other doctors who reached different conclusions?)

Re: Toilet training
My SIL insisted that all of her children had learning disabilities. None of them do but it took years for them to figure that out for themselves (her son is now getting A's and demonstrates a quicker wit than she'll ever hope to have). But the emotional damage those children have as a result of their mother I wonder about their ability to assimilate into society.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Toilet training
Perhaps the parents were unhappy because he was not born a girl, sooooooooooo decided to try the next best thing. A make over.

Re: Toilet training
This is from an interview the mother gave a few years ago...
I did like this comment from the Youtube video Joe posted...

She obviously can't be doing with 'normal' children...I am a mom of 4 amazing, wonderful, awesome children (and one on the way!). Dakota is 5 1/2 years old and has Autism. Coy, Max, and Lily are 3 1/2 year old triplets. Coy is our special little neuro-typical child. Max is also on the Autism spectrum. Lily had a very bad brain injury as a 4 month old and is about like having a 1-2 month old baby, but is so much fun (and feisty!). I work full time at home as Lily’s nurse as well as being a professional photographer outside the home. My husband, Jeremy, is a full time student at two colleges and should be done with school in Spring 2012.

Re: Toilet training
Coincidence!!Interestingly enough, I wanted to be a Neonatologist that specialized in special needs babies. While I’m not a Dr, I did end up in the health care field and work 24/7 with my special needs kiddos.

At the age of 6, Pud is identifying as a ninja turtle. Where do I take him to have a shell grafted onto his back?

If this kid and his friends had been ninja turtle fans, he would have been the envy of all of his peers...
