Thank you people for the kind words. It's very much appreciated.
And apologies if I seemed a bit over-sensitive.It wasn't intended to create any fuss or invite negativitiy for poorTimster, who has always been pleasant to me,going way back to DAF days. I'm very vertainwas just intending that to be a light-hearted joke. However as The Hen said,I have previously been self-conscious about my posting lengths, andI seem to have always written in that over-long way (ironically, I'm doing it now!!). I have been teased about it in the past (not always so light-hearted as Timster), but don't seem to be able to change my style. When I'm caught up in a topic I don't seem to be able to express myself in any more brief or concise way - I just ramble on with whatever spills out of my brain - I blame the fact that i'm often posting late, and am tired etc... but really I'd probably post the same way no matter what the time. Unfortunately for my children and friends, I'm just as long-winded when I speak
And further apologies for any typos - it's nearly 4am and I'm quite worn out and about to head to bed.
Why thank you Joe! Perfect! I appreciate that very much. Indeed. Especially so because while I have always liked and been kind to Alice; yourself?... not so much. ( I have always liked you but have on more than one occasion (okay multiple) been unkind. Forgive me.) So thanks.
Alice, don't ever apologize for your posting style. And I mean style. I have always enjoyed your thoughtfulness and insight. If not your thoroughness. You have more class in your typing pinky finger than some folks will ever have in their internet typing history body. Especially myself. Keep up the good work.
And allow me to extend to everyone the very best wishes for a happy and prosperous 2012. I hope that it is your best year ever!
(side note: Some of you may need to brush up on the meaning of sarcasm... not for this post but for the proceeding. It was most certainly intended to be lighthearted and humorous.)
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Too long, didn't read.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
What about "How do you do?" It is not used much anymore, but in the customary context it makes no sense at all. Remember it was only used when being introduced to someone.
Have you ever noticed that in other languages, the expression, "Good day!" is used to mean "hello," (Buenos dias, Guten Tag, Bon jour, etc), but in English it generally used (when it is used) to mean, "good bye"?

yrs,
rubato
I didn't miss it. I was concerned that Alice did. She has often apologized for lengthy posts..
Something that she needn't ever do.
Gee, once again rube has managed to get the complete wrong end of the stick....
I guess it shouldn't be surprising that the good natured ribbing aspect of the criticism directed at Tim whizzed completely over rube's head...
Since he himself never engages in good-natured ribbing, (or good-natured anything for that matter; mean-spirited, rather than good-natured is invariably his approach) he simply has no personal frame of reference for being able to recognize it.
If rube had said what LoCa or I had said, he would have intended it as a nasty, mean, put-down, so he projected the same intent onto us.

My bold...
Maybe that is true where you come from Dave but in England "Good day" is used as a more formal way to greet somebody just as often as it is used to mean "Good bye".
