what with us going back to Blighty in two weeks time..
If you like Marmite, you’re in for a mysterious teatime treat. The cost of a 500g glass jar has plummeted by a third in a year to just £3 in many of Britain’s leading supermarkets.
The iconic large glass jar of Marmite is now 40 per cent cheaper than its recommended selling price and bargain hunters snapping one up can cover their toast at half the cost of using a rival Big Squeeze plastic bottle.
But Marmite fans may want to hurry, as shoppers report stocks in short supply and one supermarket has even started to nudge the price back up.

Must be a glut in the market? But Gob, if you take jar or two home I expect to see you on "Border Control" or whatever that stupid Australian customs-realty show is. They have Marmite detectors you know! You'll be toast! "Spread 'em!" they'll cry as they strip you to your underwear. (Lord I'd pay not to see that)

What do they mean by "half the cost of using a rival Big Squeeze plastic bottle"?
Marmite is a rival unto itself?

They certainly couldn't have two companies making it, could they?
Edited to add; I checked and it looks like both are made by Unilever; perhaps Unilever wants to eliminated the glass jars by clearing them out?

A glut in the market could mean that millions of Brits have come to their senses, recovered their taste buds, and finally realized that the stuff is about as appetizing as toe jam....
That would be good news indeed!

Squeezy marmite is just plain wrong. The consistency is too soft.
Gob make sure you get a jar of Marmite XO!

You can buy the jar I'm not going to buy as well. Hopefully someone can get enjoyment out of the spent beer yeast.

"gold coloured flecks"
Sort of like a bowel movement if you've been eating nuts...
Except that the Marmite smells worse...

I can get proper Tetley's and Yorkshire Tea in Aldi around here. Result!
Mind you, I did spend nearly $100 in the British shop in Brissie a few weeks ago...
