Kansas may be the earthly childhood home to comic superhero Clark Kent (AKA Superman) but it will soon be home to something else quite super - Verruckt - the world’s tallest water slide.
Once constructed, the 17-storey high water slide will be the world’s largest water slide by Guinness World Records standard; snatching the title away from the Insano, a 41-metre high water slide in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Verruckt, which is German for "insane", is said to be a “bowel-loosening attraction” among many other things. But one thing is certain, this ambitious project by Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark, in Kansas, US, is set to break more than just world records.
Riders will climb 264 steps, equivalent in height to a 14-storey building, to the top before hopping into a four-person raft and being hurled down a 51.2-metre drop in four or five seconds. The ride ends with a five-storey hill, the climax to what is more than a jaw-dropping ride.
Those game enough to take on Verruckt can expect to travel at more than 100km/h down the highest drop on the water slide with the whole ride lasting about 11 seconds.
Construction of the water slide is due to be completed by the new deadline of June 5. The water slide was originally set to open on May 23 during the US Memorial Day weekend. However the date was pushed back by Schlitterbahn citing that more adjustments to the water slide were needed as well as further tests before it opens to public, Fox4news reported.
The height of the water slide was only revealed in April this year, six months after its construction was announced in November 2013.
