Okay, at a guess I'd say some Welsh team must have beaten some English team at something-or-other...

ETA:

And I would further narrow it down to probably either soccer or rugby, since these guys look too fit and their uniforms are too dirty for them to be cricket players...(cricket players aren't fond of breaking a sweat, let alone getting smudge marks on their smartly pressed shirts...)

Ah, fair guess Jim, but not an international.

*Ahem*

1.) It's only egg-chasing. I don't concern myself with such trivial 'sports'.
2.) You're in NSW now? When did you move? :fu
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Well ...technically... we're ...in... NSW. (Or at least ...within...)

Ahh, rugby it is then...

Okay, so adding these two new pieces to the puzzle, "NSW" and "egg-chasing" to the earlier clues, I've come up with:
FULL-TIME!!! NSW WINS 12-8!!!!

SLATER LOOKS LIKE BREAKING THE LINE BUT HE GETS WRAPPED UP FIVE METRES OUT AND NSW TAKES A 1-0 SERIES LEAD!

The celebrations begin for the Blues. The Maroons finally got some possession in the second half but New South Wales were brilliant in defence.

The loss of Cooper Cronk [sounds like a name from a Dickens novel]to an early injury and the hobbling of Cameron Smith drastically diminished the Maroons' attack. As Smith said, Daly Cherry-Evans "barely trained (at half-back) all week" and it certainly showed.

The Blues were led by two men; Paul Gallen and, even more so, Jarryd Hayne. The full-back was everywhere in defence and attack and, with Reynolds and Hodkinson on struggle street with their kicking games, he took over there as well.

So, like last year, the Blues take a 1-0 lead into game two, but look a different team. Last year, the Maroons were awful in game one and it had little to do with New South Wales. This year, the Blues kept them well and truly under wraps and out-played them all across the park.

The Queensland forward pack might be set for an overhaul. Dave Taylor, David Shillington and Josh McGuire should stay close to their phones. A number of fans will get their wish as Cherry-Evans, after a sub-par game one, should get his first Origin start at seven in game two.
They are playing in something called the "State of Origin Match"; (which I assume must be a reference to evolution, judging from the low foreheads of many of the players) apparently this is the 100th time they have done so...

So the Queensland team is called The Maroons?

As in:

And you were making fun of The LA Clippers?

I apologize for making light of this; after further research I see now what a serious and somber event this is:
