Half-price hard-ons

Tesco is to start selling Viagra over the counter at half price.
The pills were only available on prescription – or from dubious internet sources – until Boots began selling direct to customers last year, at £55 for four.
But Tesco will offer fierce competition by selling Viagra at £52 for eight of the blue tablets. From next Monday, Viagra will be available at 300 Tesco in-store pharmacies across the country.
Following similar rules to those operated for over-the-counter sales of the drug in Boots, customers will simply be able to put a packet in their shopping basket and go through a till.
Tesco pharmacists have already been trained to help the men potentially eligible, aged 40 to 65, to complete a questionnaire and undergo blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol tests.
If these tests show they are suitable, the men will be offered the pills. Those with abnormal glucose, cholesterol or blood pressure may be refused the drug and referred back to their GPs.
Yesterday Shona Scott, Tesco’s commercial manager for pharmacy services, said: ‘Tesco’s will be the cheapest service in the country for those who don’t have a private prescription from their GP. At the moment only Boots offer a similar service – for which they charge £55 for just four tablets.’
A Tesco source said a special training course had prepared pharmacists for different types of customers. ‘One scenario saw an older man who was very nervous and couldn’t get his words out,’ the source said. Others involved a man coming in and sitting down confidently and discussing his problem openly using slang terms.
When Boots first began testing over-the-counter sales a year ago, hundreds of men travelled many miles to buy Viagra. It is thought that many were simply too embarrassed to ask their doctor for a prescription.

Here 8 tablets will run about $125 (about £78); I imagine they would be somewhat more in the U.S.
Whose brilliant idea was it to allow these to be sold without a prescription? I predict a lot of inappropriate (and therefore ineffective) and potentially dangerous use.

A quick cursory search resulted in prices of $10 to over $20 per pill.

Scooter--What sort of dangers might be encountered by nonprescribed/inappropriate use?

severe decrease in blood pressure
heart attack
hearing and vision problems (temporary or permanent)
temporary amnesia
prolonged erection which may require surgical correction
Severe adverse reactions are usually associated with underlying CV conditions, interactions with other drugs containing nitrates or used to control high blood pressure, or cocomitant use with drugs that increase blood levels of sildenafil, such as some protease inhibitors.

prolonged erection which may require surgical correction
eewww......
That certainly doesn't sound very pleasant...
I believe I'll pass on asking for a detailed description of just what sort of "surgical correction" would be involved...

I'd opt to keep it. Bet I'd be really popular.

Until the resulting ischemia caused gangrene, requiring removal of the penis.

OK, but I'd still be popular for a while, and would then become a celibate monk to attone for my "sins".

E's & V's are notorious for the old prolonged erection problem...
Or so I've heard.

I've noticed how those Viagra ads always say, "In the event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help"
Gee, and all these years I've assumed an erection lasting four hours was normal....
You mean there are guys who don't have erections that last four hours?

Okay, I admit it, I was bragging a bit....
In recent years, I rarely have an erection that lasts more than
three hours....
Two, two and a half hours is more typical....

Jim--mine are roughly the same, but then it depends how vigorous the sex is for those hours. Four hours is not uncommon if we're not trying to get very high heart rate aerobic exercise during those hours.

Viagra OTC? Not really a drug to fuck around with, pun intended of course.
I know some women who take Viagra, it is used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
It was originally created to treat arthritis. They discovered it had an interesting side effect. Stiffening rather than un-stiffening as it were.
OTC? I can't see that happening here.
