Hmm...

Pretty countryside...

Look at his flip after he hits the fence starting at about 6.10 into the video...

The landing doesn't look right; there's absolutely no bounce when he lands...

I've looked at that landing a half dozen times and it's definitely edited... to hit the ground on a bike from that height at that speed with absolutely no bounce upon landing defies the laws of physics...

That makes me wonder about some of the other stuff.... :?

not sure if its real or not, some sections seem to be free wheel, some fixed wheel. maybe he can switch, idk. I ve never really ridden a bike with shocks, so I don t know how it would react.

beautiful either way

I miss riding my bike hard and fast. I picked up a nice Gary Fisher Marlin a few of years ago. 40 bucks at a yard sale, with a bad bearing in the back wheel. all I do is putter around on it now.

mostly flat here tho, I ve never done any mountain riding.

the name of the production company kinda gives it away. plus he acts like he s never ridden there before, but he is obviously familiar with where ever he is

There is "no bounce" when people cartwheel Jim.

There's also no bounce when people do somersaults, but that isn't an analogy to what this guy did either...

Great video, Gob. That guy is fearless! Love the soundtrack, too.

LJ, I know you usually know everything, but in this case you're just wrong. That's a high end mountain bike with high end shocks and no, they don't 'bounce' - the video's legit.

Watch some video of mountain bike races, etc. and you'll see that the way the bike in this video performed is entirely consistent with live action of mountain bikes taking jumps. The performance and design of these $1k and WAY up bikes is pretty impressive.

I've watched it more than twice already - it's a stunning video.

And here's proof you guys are full of poo:

http://rampage.redbull.tv

There are many HUGE jumps in this recently held mountain biking competition in Utah, USA and as you'll see watching them, high end front shocks on high end mountain bikes are made to fully absorb the 'bounce'.

Maybe you guys need to get out of your recliners a bit more often. ;)

eta: I can't tell exactly which model of Santa Cruz mountain bike he's riding in this video, but their bikes run from $2k - $10k retail pricing. Since this video headlines their website, I'm gonna guess they have him riding one of their best bikes, customized for him. You guys haven't ever ridden anything like it, I'm sure.

It's a stock Santa Cruz Bronson, with incredible geometry and stiffness. Danny MacCaskill is a well- known Scottish trick rider (who grew up on Skye) and the bike is a MTB with a bit of street/trick geometry. Here's the page from Santa Cruz themselves and some amazing stills (all real), including the full team (and the camera drone)that worked on the shoot:

Oh yeah - it's georgeous and terrifying. Thanks for sharing Gob! Can't wait to share with le Swede, who is cycling Mont Ventoux today (one if the most famous Le Tour mountains).

Eta: did a little more research (which helps before you make grand pronouncements) and he didn't land the fence trick the first time:

I wasn t talking about the fence. if you watch the early sequences, where the wheels meet the ground are odd. I don t doubt he did the riding, just think that it CG to impose him over the landscape in many spots

I think you need a bowel-emptying moment. Great video - awesome ride - I already linked for our friends' son in SA who does this kind of thing. Lives for bikes and has about 6 collar bone breaks and a broken leg to prove it. Silly people really.

I don;'t think he did it all in one take Wes, that would be too clever. I'm sure some bits were retaken for effect. I VERY much doubt CGI is involved.
