Last weekend was bad for athletes in South Africa

Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead during a home invasion. Female welterweight boxer Phindile Mwelase, 31, died at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria after being in a coma for two weeks following a devastating blow to the head in a boxing match. Middle-distance runner was killed in a car crash.

A young and rising football player dies for a cell phone and a few rands. A woman is pounded to death by another woman for the amusement of hundreds - all forms of boxing should be banned but women's boxing is disgusting. An Olympic silver medalist becomes yet another digit in South Africa's horrendous road accident statistics - this time a single car loss of control, which makes a change from the multiple-death taxi crashes.

It all seems to mean something but I'm blessed if I know what

I couldn't disagree more.

Have you seen any of that new MMA-style fighting, Meade? Even worse than old-fashioned boxing, and women do that, too! :(

I've love to live to see 'sports' including violence eradicated from our cultures.

Seriously, people wonder why violence is so prevalent in societies that celebrate violence as 'sport' or 'entertainment'?? :loon
