A teacher who sexually abused three of her male students has been jailed for 22 years.
Jennifer Fichter, 30, tearfully pleaded with the court as she was handed the sentence at Polk County Court. She has been convicted of 37 counts of unlawful sexual contact with minors.
Polk County Court in Forida heard that the former English teacher had a sexual relationship with three 17-year-old male students, according to Fox. She became pregnant by one of the boys and had an abortion.
Fichter was arrested in April 2014 after the mother of one of the victims found sexually inappropriate texts on her son’s phone. She contacted the police with her concerns. Fichter was arrested and charged with having sexual contact with the minor.
After hearing about the investigation, two other boys later came forward to inform police about their own ordeals. The teacher was then charged with a total of 37 offences against the three underage pupils.
All of the boys were students at Central Florida Aerospace Academy, where Fichter was a teacher.
Speaking at the sentencing on Thursday, the judge told her: “You’re going to have a long time to think about what you did.”
In footage of the judgement obtained by Fox News, Fichter can be seen to respond: “I wish I could go back and remove what I have done. I hate what I have done. I wish I could go back and think about them [the victims] before me.”
What is the age of consent?
Is having sex with a very attractive older woman really an "ordeal" for a 17 year old boy?

The age of consent in Florida is 18, meaning when having sex with and adult over 21, someone under 18 cannot give consent under most circumstances. And because she was in apposition of authority over the young men as a teacher, there may also have been more stringent consent rules.
the proceeding of some state courts are now permitted to be filmed and broadcast, which is why this part could be filmed (but any identification of the minors could not be made).
As for your question re an "ordeal", I'll leave it to others.

Actually I checked the Florida law and it appears they have an exception for sex of persons 21-23 with persons aged 16-17; in such cases consent of the minor can be given and the 21-23 year old cannot be prosecuted (assuming the consent is validly given and not coerced). Here she is 30, so it would not apply.

She raped three boys a total of 37 times. That's not even a year per occurrence. She's a predator, no different than any other. Just listen her excuse - her low self-esteem prevented her from forming relationships with men old enough to consent to sex, so instead she preyed on the most handy packages of raging hormones she could induce to make her feel better about herself.
I don't understand where the idea comes from, that just boys that age are walking erections that it makes it ok for older women to use them for their own sexual gratification.

Rape? She physically coerced them? Or was it a type of manipulation persons of similar age use?

I think a very strong case could be made that this was a fault brought on by design. God has in fact molded them very perfectly for that purpose hasn't he? (she!)
I don't see that they have received a harm which justifies 22 years, one fourth of a human life.
