I posted this in the Yogi Bear thread, but post it here again:
RIP Yogi; he seemed like one of the few legitimately nice guys in sports.
I remember he came to our school in the early 60s; he signed autographs and took the time to talk to the kids who came up to see him after the assembly (and he stayed until the last kid talked to him). I'll always remember him being an all around nice guy for that. Mickey Mantle was like the big brother we all wanted to grow up to be, but Yogi was like the uncle we always hoped would visit.

wesw, if you've not seen it, run, do not walk, to find Billy Crystal's movie 61*. As much as I hate the Yankees (see also "all other American League teams except the Indians"), that movie about the home run chase of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris is so very enjoyable.

I grew up in Brooklyn and most of my friends' fathers (my father was never a sports fan) still hadn't gotten over the departure of the Dodgers and hated the Yankees. However, for some reason they all loved Mantle, which meant it was OK for us to like him too. And Yogi? As Wes said, you gotta love him.
