Go Cubbies!

I put a 20$ bet on the Cubs (I wont say with whom) to win the World Series, before their victory over the Pirates...

If they go all the way and win The Series, I'm going to get a $400 payoff on that $20 bet...

I think they're due! :ok

(Well, incredibly overdue, actually...)

Someone pointed out that in Back to the Future 2, they travel to 2015 when the World Series is won by, you guessed it, the Chicago Cubs.

In spite of the rocky start yesterday against the Texas Rangers, I'm still rooting for my Jays.

Cubs in, Yanks out. Great start to the MLB post-season!

They'll have to overcome long odds to beat StLouis. St Louis have been monsters this year. Other than Arriata (the 2nd best pitcher in baseball) the Cub starters are journeymen so they've got a job of work.

I'd like to see Toronto in the WS; it has to be tough for Canada since the only other sports they have are curling and snowshoe racing.

The Dodgers have the best and 3rd best starters in baseball (and Clayton got 300 SO for the year) but weak hitting and bullpen so I don't see them getting by StLouis either. They're slightly better than evenses to beat the Mets but Clayton and Zach will have to pitch deep into both their starts and get run support.

Locally, there is a lot of support for KC from Giants fans who respected them for how they played last year.

That was me and I'm not sure that they were the winners only in the World Series.

It wasn't here that I saw it, it was a video on some talk show:

Mets and Dodgers is now a best of three series.
Harvey on the mound and I don't wanna hear nothin' about pitch count or innings pitched.
Just go out there and pitch your best as long as you are effective.
Lets go Mets

How are you feeling about Chase Utley?

Guin--besides the Orioles, what other bird name teams are there in MLB (or is it that you prefer the Orioles to one of the bluejays and cardinals)?

How are you feeling? He misspent his youth as a Phillie, no?

Not too good.
I'm not mad at him as I understand what he was trying to do. Same as many others have done, but hte results suck. Did he take it too far? I think so but I am not in his head if he meant to hurt/harm or just tried to break up the play.
Either way both are out tonight (or will Utley play pending appeal?)

I do think some kind of rule change will be coming in the off season like when they changed the rules for runner vs catcher at home plate.

Yeah, he was a favorite Phil at 2nd base and although I was sorry to see him go this year, it really was the right move both for him and the team.

I don't think he was trying to injure anyone, just break up the play (he has said as much in post-game interviews). I do think he took too big a risk and went beyond what is permissible under the circumstances. Utley is a good and aggressive player, but I don't think he's ever been tagged as dirty or vicious. It appears he's going to be eligible to play tonight, since there won't be a suspension hearing today.

Sue--

I didn't watch the game and only saw the slide on the news, but it seems to me that if he slid with the intent to break up the double play, that is interference. And the rules say if a player does something only calculated to break up a double play, then he should be called out (which I understand he was not).

I don't think he was out to injure Takeda though, just do we he could to break up the play.

Tejada.

It was a hard slide but that is how the game has been played for a long time. He was supposed to try to break up the double play. Although considering the consequences I think a rule change is in order.

Interesting how perceptions of these things change over time isn't it?

So how long before football disappears from elite HS sports programs altogether?

I'm thinking the Dodgers picked up a veteran player who is not hitting very well. I don't think he's that big a loss from the lineup for two games. His salary with the Phils was $15M dollars?
