swamp people

Post by wesw »

a new season has started and it promises to be interesting.

this last season is supposed to be more introspective and is supposed to dive deeper into the life and history of the swampers.

the new cast members seem great.

one of my favorite shows.

Yet another "reality" show focusing on people who look like extras that walked off the set of Deliverance:

Just one more show to put on my ever-increasing list of so-called "reality" shows that I will never (intentionally) watch.

I mean, look at the way these goofballs are wearing their hats.  These two are too stupid to know that the brim goes in front, to keep the sun (or the glare from your 'gator-shinin' light) out of your eyes.

wes--Not watching a prepackaged, so-called "reality" show is a loss? We're not talking a documentary here, it's entertainment; you can like it nor not, but neither is evidence of a closed or open mind.

FWIW, I have avoided most of these so-called reality shows, from the backwoods ones to Jersey Shore.

BB--I wear my hat that way when I ride my bike; otherwise it blows off too easy.

yep , RR, people turn their hats backwards on boats too.....

but BB knows what works best in the swamp....

anyway, you don t really know what the show is if you haven t seen it , do you?

watch the most recent episode and you may see something of value there, along with entertainment.

I did, but what do I know.....

I recently saw a few minutes of another one of these inbred hillbilly featuring reality-trash shows (they've sprouted like weeds):

"Mountain Monsters" :

I wonder which one plays the banjo...

It's pretty bad when in a show that's supposed to be about hunting monsters the scariest creatures are the ones doing the hunting...

I'd much rather run into Bigfoot or Mothman out in the middle of the wilderness than these knuckle dragging goobers...

I wear a helmet, not a baseball/trucker's cap when I ride, and there have been a couple of times when I'm glad I've had it.  Did the helmet save me from serious injury or head trauma?  Maybe; maybe not.  But I really don't think I'd like to go back in time and try it again without the helmet just for the purpose of comparison.

wes---there are a lot of things I don't watch based my reaction to the commercials. while I'm certain I do miss the occasional gem among the rocks, I also miss a lot of junk. If I had enough time to watch everything once, I'd give more things a chance, but that just isn't there. However, it has nothing to do with having an open or closed mind--I have nothing against the people in the shows and/or the people they are supposed to be representative of. FWIW, I did watch one episode of Duck Dynasty and hated it (I guess I just don't like quirky "characters", urban, suburban, or rural), but my daughters love it and still watch it. I'm content to leave it alone for the fans

BB--I still wear a hat (or no headcover at all), when I ride. I have never had a time when I was concerned about not wearing a helmet, but I am sure there are times when a helmet would come in handy.

You'd think that with all the money these hayseeds are getting for "jest actin' natch'r'lly" that they could maybe afford to buy a razor and use it once in a while?

It's nice to have shows featuring people we can all look down on and laugh at, isn't it?

I'm convinced that is a large part of the appeal:

The gap between the featured mouth-breathers and the people who enjoy watching the featured mouth-breathers is not very noticeable.

well I don t watch the bigfoot hunters or the duck call guys so I don t know about them.

the show swamp people is nothing like the things you are describing.

whatever.

check out the most recent episode and then give me hell..., or don t.

there s really no point argueing about it tho if you don t know what you are talking about.

it s like..., "hey guys! these oranges are good. try some."

then you say..., "nah, oranges are too sour, I ve had citrus fruit before..., lemons AND grapefruits. you need a pile of sugar just to swallow them".

Gob and Jim--you're pointing out the reason I usually can't stand "reality shows" of this type, although I will admit that I have never seen this one so I don't know if the criticism applies. The few I have seen (like Jersey Shore, and even Duck Dynasty--at least in the episode I saw ) pokes fun at these people in a way that is entirely unfair (it's also the reason I can't stomach Michael Moore, whether it's making fun of the girl in K Mart in bowling for Columbine or any of the other things he has done; I don't mind poking fun at politicians and famous/powerful people who have ways of fighting back, but not to ordinary people).

wes--as I said, I have not seen the show so I don't know if this criticism applies here or not. But either way, it is not a show that interests me, so I doubt I will watch it.

The only reality shows we watch are "Masterchef" and "My Kitchen Rules", the Aussie versions obvs.

The only ones I watch are the Deadliest Catch and Kitchen Nightmares...(well maybe 3 if you include Finding Bigfoot, with Andre the Giant Junior, Nerd Girl, and the other two guys as a "reality" show...)

I confess though that I also did watch Growing Up Gotti....

Gob--The US version of Masterchef (and I presume My Kitchen Rules) are more game shows than pseudo-documentaries.

Jim--never watched any of first three those shows, but I did see a few minutes of the Gotti one (a very few minutes) and it did remind of one of the shows that picks on their subjects (although they appeared to be such jerks maybe they were just playing to be stereotypes--kind of like the Kardashians or Paris Hilton).
