Live Organ Donations.

Post by SisterMaryFellatio »

Someones husband on another board i post on runs a private forum for patients and their families awaiting an organ transplant.

He was contacted several weeks ago by someone who was offering an organ for sale. After checking the authenticity he decided to post the donors contact details. It has opened a hug can of worms on the other board.

Let the discussion commence and the arguments ensue!

Cue Strop in 5-4-3...

You need to be more specific. Was it a Hammond or a Wurlitzer?

Sure. Let's allow the most vulnerable and desperate to be open to the grossest kind of exploitation by anyone who can wave enough money under their nose. And let's ensure that only the richest of the rich will be able to access organs, by allowing them to be sold to the highest bidder and pretty much eliminating the donation of organs as we know it.

How much they asking for it?

If by selling an organ they can lift their family out of poverty and despair, then maybe it's not such a bad deal.

Then why not go all the way and allow them to sell themselves into slavery? I suspect an entire (living) body will command more than an organ.

Are you interested in buying?

Not from a child no, but from a consenting adult.

For you it may mean a new lease of life, for them, a chance of a getting out of the slums and giving their kids a chance of a future.

And someday if god forbid your daughter should need a kidney and no relative is a match, she will die because no one will be donating organs anymore and the going price will be in the millions of dollars.

Surely organ donation will continue as is, with a market on top of that.

Who is going to give organs away when people can and will pay for them?

You tell me - you could donate an organ to an unknown stranger or sell it for $500,000. Which would you pick?

Is that what happens now? I think not.

Aus:
The Australian Organ Donor Register (the Donor Register) was established in November 2000 and is the only national register for organ and/or tissue donation for tranplantation. The Donor Register keeps a record of your donation decision and of the organ and tissue you agree to donate.

The Donor Register ensures your donation decision can be verified 24 hours a day, seven days a week by authorised medical personnel, anywhere in Australia. In the event of your death, information about your donation decision may be accessed from the Donor Register by authorised medical personnel and provided to your family. It is important you discuss your donation decision with your family or those close to you as they will be asked to give consent.
UK:
Joining the register records your agreement to the use of your organs and tissue for transplantation after your death.

When you register it is important that you tell those closest to you about your decision.

To decide whether or not you wish to become a donor after you have died is something very personal and it is important that everyone makes their own decision. This booklet contains answers to the most commonly asked questions about organ and tissue donation and aims to resolve any doubts you might have about leaving a legacy of life for others after you die.
Organs are donated when the donor dies. It is, and should remain, illegal to sell a deceased person's organs.

As someone who believes very strongly in "my body my choice" I don't feel the government has the right to prevent someone from making the choice to sell a kidney if he or she wants to do so. Surely if a woman has the right to abort she should have the right to sell a body part if it pleases her to do so. A human can live very well one one kidney if proper care is taken.

Then what was wrong with that woman selling her virginity?

As someone who donates blood regularly, I can't get behind selling any human product. Right now patients are waiting in line according to 'need'. I be disgusted if one could skip to the head of the line according to 'wealth'.

A completely artificial distinction. If a survivor has the power to dispose of a deceased's organs by donation, then they would have the power to sell them if it were permitted to sell organs.

In any event though, what you are proposing is the diversion of organs from living donors from those in most medical need to those who can afford to pay the most. Given the massive shortage of organs available, that in itself is a problem.

One can live very well serving as another's slave. Why stop at allowing the sale of parts of us, and allow us to sell our whole selves?
