It has never been clear to me as to the proper way to observe St. David's Day. A leek in my local green grocer is about a foot long and rather heavy. How does one attach this to one's lapel?

I think Chuck is cheating...
That's not a leek:
That's a spring onion (and a small one at that):
What is the difference between Leek and Spring Onion?
• The edible part of leek lies above the ground whereas, in the case of spring onion, even the bulb that remains inside the earth is consumed.
• Leek is larger than spring onion.
• Leeks have a much milder flavor than spring onions.

Unless of course, Welsh leeks are scrawny, wimpy little things that are no bigger than a small spring onion...
As opposed to the large, robust, manly leeks we grow here in America...

I'd be more concerned about a leek in my pants than on my lapel.

Tues. March 1st. I'll put it in the calendar. So what do you do to celebrate? Go steal a sheep?
The next big event is St Urho's day March 16th " heinäsirkka heinäsirkka mene pois "!

I guess Urho didn't have anywhere near as good a PR firm as Patrick...

Grasshoppers - just not as catchy as "snakes"

looks like Charlie just yanked up a scallion from the lawn.
wild scallions are a tasty, spicy addition to any omelette.

I'd rather be mistaken for having a leek in my pants than a spring onion.

Daffodil is rarely in bloom on this side of the pond March first. Only weak, frail things nurtured in a hothouse and an insult to any Welshman.

Daffodils of various types have been blooming in my yard for a month now. The King Alfreds just popped yesterday:
