That graph clearly shows a correlation between firearm production in the US and the number of bees in Santa Cruz.

Using that graph, it also shows that in fifteen years (2000 through 2014) there were a total of NO LESS THAN 60 million firearms manufactured (and presumably sold) in the US.  Now, that's just in the US, and will not take into consideration weapons that originate outside of the US and are subsequently imported into this country; nor does it take into consideration weapons that were manufactured, sold in the US prior to the year 2000, but are still serviceable and still in the hands of the consumer.  Could it be that the market has finally reached a saturation point — in other words, everybody who wants a gun now has one (or more), and those who don't want one won't be buying one anyway?

Once the market becomes saturated, the laws of economics (supply and demand) dictates that one of two things will happen — either prices will drop, or sales and production will decrease..... and judging from what I see in the Gander Mountain or Cabela's flyers, prices don't seem to be dropping.

More that 60 million guns in the hands of individuals?!? Everybody KNOWS these gun exist only to kill people. Compared to the 60M guns or whatever big number you like, how many people were shot last year? Do the math. Looks to me, if they exist only to kill, they don't work very well. Gun makers should be sued for selling a product that fails to function so badly.

BB why do you think these guns are "presumably" sold in the USA? A more reasonable assumption is that they are not retained in the USA.

If this is truly the number of firearms manufactured here, then it includes military supply to our own armed forces as well as to those of overseas purchasing governments. The USA does have a reputation for selling arms overseas. The graph is relatively useless in providing information other than a gross number without context or explanation

Firearms production goes through a boom-bust cycle based on the hysterical claims that Obama (or someone) is about to take them away.

This is one of the more delightful and completely hallucinatory Republican strategies foisted on the determinedly stupid..

Obama supports the 2nd amendment and has done << Nothing >> in 7 years to reduce access to guns at all.

Since Obama is not a member of Congress, he can do absolutely nothing about guns, other than execute the laws that have already been passed, to the extent that Congress will pay for that to be done.

Blaming him about gun control is about as accurate as blaming him for the mishandling of Hurricane Katrina (which happened three years before he took office).

At least we are producing something in America.
And as Meade said, how many went to cops, military, off shore, etc.
A more telling graph would be how many guns were purchased by ordinary citizens in the USA.

So, this graph is saying we have to watch out for Switzerland or Argentina?

I get phone calls and letters frequently from Mr. Lapere or his reps at the NRA warning me about the horrible things Obama is gonna do to my constitutional right to walk around with an elephant gun. And he is using the awful school shootings in Connecticut as the excuse.

Pres Obama DID do something. It was BIG, It was Huge. He used taxpayer money to print new pamphlets he sent out to those jack-booted BATF agents to pass out to gun dealers and the public that spelled out the actual federal regs. That is all he has actually done, beyond tearful speeches.
