I would like to, but I don't really have good info on how to do it. Lots of bad science out there with alot of quack information.

This story in today's NY Times says 'perhaps' Alzheimer's is an result of the older body's own efforts to fight off an infection. As people get older, their immune system becomes less effective. Some (unspecified) infections manage to get through the brain/blood barrier and the plaque build up that is the key identifier of Alzheimer's is a natural effect of the body trying to isolate the infection.

I am an old fart that has been eligible for medicare for more than 15 years. My parents lived longer than typical for their cohort. I have already attended too many funerals for friends younger than me. I really don't want to live with drastically reduced cognition.

So any good sources for advice on boosting the immune system for an older person in better than 'normal' health? Yeah, I know, get my weight down, exercise more, eat a better diet, build better social network. As the good book in Luke 18:18 says in a different context, I have done all this, what else do I need to do?

Auto immune diseases are subtle and complex. Their effects can be devastating. The immune system is itself complex. So they are a favorite field for quacks of all stripes.

I read recent information on the theory that Alzheimer's disease is a form of diabetes. Labeling it DM3 they state it is believed to be caused by and insulin resistance that occurs in the brain. You do not have to be a DM2 to have DM3 though those with DM2 seem to have a higher incidence of Alzheimer's.
