100 ways to celebrate National Burger Day

Image

National Burger Month ends with a bang on Saturday with the "official" National Hamburger Day. Our bodies can't afford to celebrate every food holiday, but when it comes to an excuse to bite into a juicy, over-the-top burger, we're in — how can you not be with 100 options? We found tons of take across the country for inspiration, from sliders to triple-stacked to cheese-stuffed. Try the rapidly spreading ramen burger, a short rib patty or one of these chefs' special sauces. You'll find a few non-beef options in there, too.

Browse the gallery above for some of America's most indulgent, popular, overflowing or just plain good burgers from New York to LA and in major cities in between.
See the delectable selection:

One of the good things of the foodie movement is the rise of the awesome burger. Ate a place called Primal Burger yesterday, terrific. Killer Burger is another place that "kills" it, among the many specialty shops popping up. Most good restaurants now have their take on a high end burger. And with more stores carrying free-range, grass-fed, non-GMO, organic beef (if they would just feed the cattle guacamole!), even the barbecued burger at home has stepped up its game. It's a good time to not be a vegetarian. ;)

Alas, my paranoia has driven me away from my favorite burger. Take a good quarter pound beef patty and flame grill it medium rare. Then put it on a good potato flour hamburger bun. Add a good blue cheese salad dressing to the bun, and a very slight amount of nice sweet bbq sauce. The important addition has been filed away in fond memory because I have heard of just too much bacterial contamination-- I want a big scoop of bean sprouts.

Once upon a time I could get a very good approximation of this at the Philly area fast food chain--Gino's Now it is also just a memory.

I'm going for filet mignon tonight. Salt, pepper - two minutes untouched in very hot fry pan with oil; turn for another 2 mins; add sprig of rosemary and some butter; into the pre-heated 450 oven for a 2 minutes or less; plate the filet2 and pour the herb infused droppings on 'em; let 'em rest for 5 mins; chow down!

A pox on hamburgers. (No, I don't need a recipe for that, thank you very much)

We're doing grilled burgers today (mixed with Dijon mustard, chopped onion and some authentic Cajun seasoning a friend of mine sent me) served on toasted English Muffins with a light Bearnaise sauce...

Tomorrow, barbecued chicken leg and thigh quarters that have been marinating in good quality Italian dressing...

Monday, I'm bringing some nice thick ribeyes to a family barbecue in the East Bay that will have been soaking for two days in a lovely garlic, teriyaki, and sherry marinade...

Yes, I'm trying to pull my hippie dippy daughter from The Dark Side of vegetarianism... 8-)

In fact I'm so diabolical about it, tomorrow I'm picking up several pounds of fresh mussels that I'm going to steam and then we're going to have them in a white wine garlic butter sauce before we have the chicken...

“These vegan corn burgers are packed with spices, herbs and a hit of lemon zest – healthy and seriously satisfying ”
Read more at http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vege ... QwIK0Vw.99

Ingredients

1 x 400 g tin of chickpeas
1 x 340 g tin of sweetcorn
½ a bunch of fresh coriander
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon ground coriander
½ teaspoon ground cumin
1 lemon , zest of
3 heaped tablespoons plain flour , plus extra for dusting
sea salt
rapeseed oil
1 small round lettuce
2 large ripe tomatoes
tomato ketchup
4 wholemeal burger buns

Drain and place the chickpeas and sweetcorn into a food processor. Pick the coriander leaves, then add half to the processor along with all of the stalks. Add the spices, lemon zest, flour and a pinch of salt, then pulse until combined, but not smooth – you want to retain a bit of texture.

On a flour-dusted surface, divide and shape the mixture into four equally sized patties (roughly 2cm thick). Pop onto a tray and place in the fridge for around 30 minutes to firm up.

Heat a splash of oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for around 10 minutes, or until golden and cooked through, turning halfway.

Meanwhile, click off, wash and spin-dry four nice lettuce leaves, then finely slice the tomatoes horizontally.

Squeeze a large dollop of ketchup onto the base of each bun (toast them if you like), then top with the burgers. Layer over a couple of slices of tomato, a lettuce leaf, a few coriander leaves and finally the burger tops. Serve with a crisp, green salad, if you like.

I will do that...

I have made very clear to Tati that I have no intention of becoming a "vegetarian chef" (nor does her mother)...

If she wants something other than frozen veggie burgers and vegetable side dishes, she is going to have to create the meals...

I'll pay for the ingredients, but she has to do the work...

She has taken that on as a challenge, and insists that she can create vegetarian dishes that even I will like...

Well, at least that gives her a goal to pursue around the house...

But I don't half fancy her chances of success... ;)

To "don't half fancy" means you rate the chances highly. :-D

Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary
not half

1 : not nearly
▪ He's not half the fool you think he is. = He's not half so foolish as you think he is. [=he is much smarter than you think he is]
▪ an aging baseball player who is not half the hitter he once was [=he is not nearly as good as a hitter as he once was]

2 Brit, informal — used to emphasize a statement or description
▪ She doesn't half swear! [=she swears a lot]
▪ It's not half cold today! [=it is very cold today]
▪ “Is it cold out?” “Not half!” [=yes, it is very cold]
Some of these recipes may be better/easier for her....

After a perfect day at the beach where I was coerced into swimming in 56-degree water (air temps close to 90), clam chowder, 2 pound steamed lobsters, and fresh spinach salad was on offer at my house for dinner tonight. With two different rosés to chose from. Then we went for ice cream at one of the many local stands and split a hot fudge sundae.

I'll be passed out shortly.

In honour of Jim's daughter becoming a hippy, I will be making these on Wednesday.

This burger is so uber delicious that you really have to make it to know. And yes, it can fit in my mouth. those buns are mulitgrain and soft and squishy.:) Recipe Multigrain rolls here. or make these pillowy white dinner rolls. Somegluten free breads here.

Lets start with the layers. Theres the burger bun layered with a little Chipotle Habanero mayo, then spinach(use lettuce, baby kale or other greens of choice), then the chickpea onion rings, then the nicely done Red lentil Cauliflower patty, then some roasted mini peppers(or roasted red pepper), then pickled Jalapenos, then more chipotle habanero mayo, some fresh cilantro and bun. done.

mmmm.. find me a problem with this burger. :)

I'm a meat eater that loves my veggies and eating veggie/vegan a couple of days a week. This burger looks incredible. Gob - looking over the recipe (because I have almost everything to make it and think I may tomorrow) I'm just confirming that you grate the cauliflower raw?

Sriracha instead of chipotle but I prefer that flavor with lentils anyway.
