What you got (off) for Xmas?

With Xmas day and Boxing day falling on a weekend this year it's a bit all to cock.
Hatch is having Xmas with her dad this year, so I put in to have all Xmas as working. The powers that be, in their infinite wisdom decided otherwise.
I'm off Xmas Day, Boxing Day, and the following three days (27/28/29 Dec), back in for two days, then off for New Years Day and the day after.
The good thing is, that as I have been mandated to take these days, I'll get paid for all the public holidays, so I'll get the five days paid for doing fuck all.
Hen's off from Xmas day, goes back on Jan 4 th, again with pay for all the public holidays.

As per usual we're all off with pay for the week from christmas to the new year. They pretty much have to, it takes a lot of support staff to keep the cleanroom, labs, and all the R&D tools running and they'd never get enough of them in that interval to make it worthwhile. I'm carrying over some time into the new year for a grand adventure.

I've got the same days off as Hen. No loading though, just normal pay.

I worked today, and the resulting 53.5-hour paycheck Christmas Eve should be nice...due to the Saturday holiday, I'm off 12/24 and 12/31, meaning I have a pair of 4-day weeks. Due to my boss being an incompetent twit, we're short about 4 people right now, so this is going to be a COMPLETE goat-grab. I expect we'll be playing catch-up until the end of January. (On the plus side, this means I can get more overtime.)
I can't ask her (she's working until 10 tonight), but I think Liz is off Christmas eve and on-call Christmas Day from 2am-noon. (And I know she hopes to be called in, because it's double-time.) I'm at my mother's for Christmas, I expect she'll go in Thursday to sign out a truck (probably the big rollback) and meet me there.

My company is giving the legally required 24th and 31st off. (There was no Christmas party) It seems likely though that we'll be asked to volunteer to come in on the 25th, Christmas Day, and/or New Year's Day.
A lot of folks will probably take it for the overtime, as they did on July Fourth.
This industry doesn't like to give days off, but only does it because the government requires them to; however they can ask for volunteers to work seven days a week, and in this biZ you'll find a lot of takers. That's why you'll find metalworkers are usually either Mexicans who will work past the grave and Jehovah Witnesses who don't believe in recreational holidays (They don't even celebrate birthdays).
Guess which my boss is?

I finish on 22/12 and go back 4/1

I am not paid for any of it - however I worked extra hours/days in November which brought in extra dosh which covers for the December days off plus I had a rather nice and unexpected Xmas bonus which would have covered those days anyway which is handy as I rather suspect I might have already finished for Xmas given the weather. The snow which came down yesterday has now frozen solid, temps are not going to get above freezing today or tomorrow - given that work is at the bottom of a very very steep and normally ungritted hill I seriously doubt I'll be able to get in even if I were able to somehow get my car to the main road.

Oh fuck,, to be back in Wales for a proper Dickensian Xmas....
Boys in the bar for pre-dinner drinks, carol singers, midnight mass Xmas eve...
Next year we'll be back in the UK for Xmas, I hope Hen and Hatch will get the atmosphere and emotion.
I'd give my left bollock for the chance for us to be back now.

I suppose in Australia if the boys spent Xmas Eve in a bar, it would be too much like any other night of the year.

True, and with sunshine and good humour, and most importantly no Xmas jumpers, who'd know the difference?

For the first time in 15 years i have Xmas eve, Xmas day and boxing day off!! I am working 27th and 28th and New Years day at 7am!! So no drinkie poos for me.
Gob must admit this is the only time of year I miss the UK. The build up, Xmas songs on the radio...Its just not Christmas without Band Aid (the original) John Lennon, Wham and Slade on Radio 1. I miss rugging up to go Xmas shopping (altho I hate the cold) the crappy movies (James Bond, Mary Poppins and The Snowman) and Christmas Eve in the pub having a sing along.
As much as the tree is up and pressies are under it I cannot get into the Spirit the same as I could in the UK. I have to force myself now tho with Pudd. I can only get excited for him now the majic of xmas is just not there for me anymore and as much as I love living here and wouldn't change it for the world i blame Australia - its just not the same!

Well it is seriously Christmassy here with all the snow - and its fecking freeeeeeeeeezing.
This is the view from where I sit typing this post :
This is the garden before hubby dug a trench for my wimpy dog to have somewhere to pee
Daughter-in-law-to-be has decided she actually needs all her fingers and toes for her wedding so has backed out of the usual New Years Eve Blues vs Ospreys family derby match so it's just me, hubby & Xeno this year who'll be indulging in our annual who gets hypothermia first challenge

Its cold here too and we have snow in the forecast starting tonight through Thursday. Most likely it will be flurries, and hopefully just enough to allow for sledding and a pretty white coat of snow on everything, and leave the roads safe and dry.
I'm off from the 22nd until the 3rd, although client needs may keep in the office on the 22nd, and will be doing a combo of traveling and home-staying over that period. Since I'm salaried, I'm always paid on my days off and no one really counts them anyway -- as long as the work is done and the clients are happy, I can do what I want.
So looking forward to spending the next 10 days with most of the important people in my life!

If the weather continues to deteriorate I may take Wed off as well. We've had 2 in of rain since midnight (9:33am now) and 6.25in from this storm so far. Heavier rain is predicted for most of the week.

It will likely be a white Christmas this year. I, for the first time in many years, am off Christmas day. Not happy about it as I prefer to work it for the extra cash. Actually I asked off for Thanksgiving and said I would work the other holidays. My boss got it all backasswards. I worked 12 hours Thanksgiving and then got Christmas and Christmas eve off. I traded a day with someone with trippers kids and will be working Christmas eve till 10pm, just because I am such a warm hearted humanitarian less of a bitch than usual. Working New Years Eve day and New Years day.

Be more fun to spend it in a pool with a bar, playing with your wife.
