Xmas Blow Out..

Ok, Hatch is at her father's for Xmas this year, so Hen decided that we should not have "traditional" Xmas lunch. She's invited Hatch's dad, Hatch, and the mother in law around for a Xmas afternoon tea. No worries. BUT. She then proceeded to dig out all our "Delicious" magazines to look for Xmas buffet type things to make. She saw some nice things. Lots of nice things in fact. Lots and lots and lots of nice things.

So, the table will be laden with.


Individual pumpkin and mushroom Wellingtons (v) (H)
Sashimi Oysters (H)
Savoury bread scrolls with cranberry, chestnuts, caramelised onion and cheese. (v) (H)
Chicken drumsticks in plum marinade and curry marinade (H)
Herby breaded lamb chops (H)
Parmesan fritttas with asparagus and corn. (v) (G)
Quorn in plum sauce. (v) (G)
Broadbean salad. (v) (m-i-l)
Individual mushroom tarte tartin (v) (G)

7 Aussie cheeses with water crackers. (v) (G)

We got some bits done yesterday, but we've been up since 6.00 am, and apart from walk the dogs and go to the shops to get all the things we've forgotten it's been all hands on the stove!

Good onya.....ours was simple this year..I couldn't be arsed due to making 17 Cookie Christmas Trees which we finished at 330 am Weds morning!

Pudd chose the brekkie menu,

Croissants
Sausages
Bacon
Scrambled Eggy!

Lunch
Cranberry and mustard glazed ham
Cold Roast Turkey
Pomegranite and Walnut Salad
Freshly baked bread
Roast Potatoes.

I spent the entire day yesterday preparing and cooking - for today there's only me, hubby & the dog, but tomorrow Xeno, dil-to be and their dog will be joining us for the traditional Boxing Day bubble n squeak with cold meats and pickles, so I had to do enough veggies so there would be "leftovers" to fry up :lol: plus of course my extra special Xmas gravy needed to sit overnight and infuse with all the lovely tastes of the stock etc.

Today it's traditional Turkey with all the trimmings followed by christmas pud with brandy butter & cream (we aren't having a starter as we'd rather have a bigger dinner.

This evening it's cold meats (Turkey, honeyed ham, roast beef), cheeseboard including a selection of Welsh cheddars, leek & bacon puffs, sausages, pickles and crackers, followed by rum & rasin ice cream.

Noodles in bubble and squeak? Umm thats a new one on me :lol: Mine tomorrow is mashed potatoes with sprouts and carrots all mushed and mashed together roughly then fried to a crisp on both sides in dripping, served with cold meats, baby beetroot & pickled onions & hubby will no doubt add piccalilli and branston pickle to his *ick*.

Bubble and squeak is a traditional English dish made with the shallow-fried leftover vegetables from a roast dinner. The chief ingredients are potato and cabbage, but carrots, peas, brussels sprouts, and other vegetables can be added. It is traditionally served with cold meat from the Sunday roast, and pickles.

Traditionally, the meat was added to the bubble and squeak itself, although nowadays it is more commonly made without meat. The cold chopped vegetables (and cold chopped meat if used) are fried in a pan together with mashed potatoes or crushed roast potatoes until the mixture is well-cooked and brown on the sides.

'Baker's delight' ultra yummy bread /(some toasted it, some left it fresh)

home-made fruit bread (made by the mum of my son's girlfriend)
home made shortbread (made by the above mum and also the girlfriend)
home-made chocolate / rum balls (made by one of the son's girlfriends)
home/made 'white christmas' (made by another son's girlfriend)
fererro Roche chocolate (xmas presents - we seem to have a ton of it)
Toblerone bars (presents - another ton)
M&M chocolates (more xmas presents - three 750 gram buckets of it)
sugar jubes (presents: donut shaped soft lolly things covered in sugar)
candy canes / caramel santas / chocolate santas / chocolate money etc (ex-decorations from wrapped presents / more presents)
miscellaneous other chocolates and decadent food items

xmas pudding - individual serves / pre-cooked and ready to heat in the microwave and eat whenever anyone wanted/wants - and custard

Boxing Day supper
will be .... the eggnog French toast as per american woman's idea / suggestion. :ok
(we were going to have it for breakfast but decided it will be a nice 'finish' to the whole xmas thing instead)

We stopped having Christmas roasts etc years ago - it was always a bit of overkill when I lived in the tropics (not pleasant for people slaving over the hot stove in an already humid atmosphere!), and we came to prefer the casual barbeque or cold meat idea better. easy to prepare and a more relaxed 'feel' to the whole day, plenty of scope for people to wander in and out the house and 'graze' on the food. :)

I thought we were bad..
A New Jersey woman who hopes to become the fattest woman in the world got 30,000 calories closer to her 1,000lb goal with a festive feast that could have fed dozens of revellers.

46-stone Donna Simpson, sitting in a reinforced metal chair, chowed down on the world's biggest Christmas dinner as she ate for two straight hours on Saturday.

The single mother-of-two tucked into two 25lb turkeys, two maple-glazed hams, 15lbs of potatoes (10lbs roast, 5lbs mashed), five loaves of bread, five pounds of herb stuffing, four pints of gravy, four pints of cranberry dressing and an astonishing 20lbs of vegetables.

After polishing off her enormous main course, she still had room for dessert and ate a 'salad' made of marshmallow, cream cheese, whipped cream and cookies.
