I'd like to know the criteria used for that first map. seems a bit shady to me.

One kind of glaring mistake on Germany, there. Current borders were set in 1990, less than 30 years ago. Similarly with the Baltic states, which were part of the Soviet Union until 1991.

if they are current form how can the UK be older than Ireland? Iceland has only been an independent republic since 1944.
