Anyone here ever used it?

Check you numbers carefully. I looked at this a while back and it was cheaper to leave my car here in Delaware, take the train and rent a car in Daytona for two weeks, then train back without the car. 'Course, cheaper yet to just drive my own car all the way. All in how much you like to drive your own car through the city traffic on I95, and enjoy the tourist traps along the way.

No car...it would be our motorcycles. It is a time thing: we can basically cover 800+ really-boring miles enroute to Panama City, and get a full night's sleep at the same time.

Bonus: we're going against the usual flow (south in July/August), so it should be cheaper. (Liz said about $800 for us, 2 bikes, and a roomette.)

I know someone who did it coach (no roomette) and hated it--said it was slower than driving and had a lot of delays, but that might have been a bad day. I'd check the ontime performance records to see how long it is likely to be. She ialso said the wait for the cars was pretty long as well.

IT might be longer...but it is an overnight trip. Vehicle unload is anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. (It is faster in FL than VA.) Delays depend mostly on how many freight run that night.

Sounds like you've done some checking already. Unless the delays are extensive (in my friend's case hey were "hours"--I don't recall how many, but at least 4-5), it could be a good way to travel if you can sleep on the train and are not on a timetable. I doubt you could ship the bikes for less.

Would the miles be really boring if you took all state routes and not the highways? It might take longer, but you'd see some of the real America; I did that on my road trips whenever I could and those are my best memories.

Maybe, but we are already pushing things, time-wise. We're planning 4000+ miles in 2 weeks, and planning on having at least three days with little to no road time. We can take secondary roads, but there has to be some highway.

It isn't $16 good either.... I saw it when it was released in the UK and was horribly disappointed

Perhaps it’s not terribly good, but Peter Cetera and other members of the band Chicago have minor roles in the film and for that alone I am curious to see it. $16 is roughly the price of a movie ticket around here so it seems fair, and then I can donate the disc to my local library.

If they will take it.  Most libraries are getting a little more selective of what goes into their collections.  Items that merely take up shelf space are not wanted.  If it's not something that's likely to get checked out by patrons it's probably going to be politely declined or, if accepted, it will be as fodder for a "Friends of he Library" book sale to raise funds to buy what they — and the borrowing public — really want.
