His best in my books (recorded by the BBC so very little strong language.)

Creatively speaking, Lenny Bruce was the master. He broke so many barriers that there is just no comparison to any later comedian.
George Carlin is very good and more disciplined and literate in the construction of his material. But he had a lot of advantages starting with the fact that Bruce had blazed the trail and that Carlin had a longer career and worked often on US television.
What I've heard of Billy Connolly is mostly cheap laughs with nothing that challenges boundaries or is as well-crafted as either of the above. But maybe he has a better 'set' than has been shown here.

One is static still life, the other flowing creative expression?
Still life = painting of an inanimate object eg. bowl of fruit, vase or flowers.
Mona Lisa = Portrait painting of a person!

Flowing creative expression = George Carlin.
Saw him in Vegas, many moons ago. His stage shows are really quite long and in depth. They edit them for the televised versions, including HBO who don't edit his language, just trim the length of his show.
He (Carlin) often gets quite philosophical, while Connolly is just ribald; funny grant you, but coarse. Fart jokes, not matter how elaborate, are fart jokes.
