High School Approves Stock-Car Racing as a Letterable Sport.
The High School Racing Association division action at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem this summer will mean just a little bit more to competitors from the Melrose-Mindoro High School.

The Melrose-Mindoro School Board became the first in the state of Wisconsin to offer auto racing as a letterable sport for students after approval at their Feb. 28 meeting.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Looks like fun. I would have gone out for racing in high school, had it been offered on the cheap. As it was, I had to wait until college. I joined the K-State Sports Car club at a get together even before classes started. There was either a Time-Speed & Distance Rallye or a parking lot autocross (call it pylon racing) at least every other weekend. I ran my MGA with moderate success in both.

The faculty advisor was a really neat car guy who drove either his Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing or a nearly new Porsche 911 to campus daily. He also brought them to the foreign car shop where I worked. That's where he remembered me from when I spoke to him on the phone about four years ago. He was 95. He died two years ago. Gee, I thought he was old 50 years ago.

I googled K-State sports car club, and discovered that it no longer exists. Probably a liability thing, because that's the way the world is today.
They have this instead: https://www.k-state.edu/powercatmotorsports/ That looks pretty exclusive.

Some schools still offer some sort of auto racing experiences; see this WIKI link:
