Going home

Post by MajGenl.Meade »

Well, it's finally happened. We're on our way back to the USA via the UK starting May 31. Time to return to the bosom of the family. Time to get back there and vote against despotism - for something better. We've been in South Africa for 11 years and leaving here is going to be a terrible wrench - far more so than we first left the USA in 2009 (although you'll perhaps remember some regrets involved in that). Aging has something to do with it. Seeing a need to be supportive of aging family too.

What's good here: people of all kinds, colors, languages and customs. The best wine at the lowest prices.

What's bad here: poverty, unemployment, corruption, incompetence, the ANC, the abject failure of parastatals (see corruption, incompetence, ANC) and so on. The chance that arose in 1994 did not survive the loss of Mandela and those who thought like him. It may not be in my lifetime but I think South Africa is on the road to collapse. Hope that's an utterly mistaken opinion.

Best of luck mate.

I heard from a certain former high ranking source and a lot of his current supporters that the easiest way to get into the U.S. is to jump across the southern border. I'm pretty sure he said that Cleveland borders Mexico so it shouldn't be much trouble for you. Of course you might want to fill out some paperwork and catch a free bus ride at the U.S. / Mexican border that will very likely take you to Florida and from there you can catch another free bus ride to Washington DC. From there it's just a hop, skip and a jump to Cleveland. Hope this helps.

Have a safe journey. And one more thing, if you do decide to come here across the Texas/Mexican border, the password (pass phrase?) is Recuerda el álamo. Don't share that with anybody.

Good luck.

Wear masks on the flight home - covid is surging again and now we have monkey pox going around too!
