Sydney taking the piss

THEY have been successfully used in London, Amsterdam, and Canada and now temporary open-air urinals are coming to Sydney to stop liquored-up late night revellers relieving themselves in public.
The City of Sydney is to trial temporary public urinals on Friday and Saturday nights in Kings Cross and Oxford Street.
The trial is an attempt ''to address some of the public urination issues occurring in [the] area'', residents were told in a letter from the council this week, and to help reduce the city's big weekend clean-up bills.
London, Amsterdam and some Canadian cities have successfully deployed the temporary urinals to cope with late night revellers.
According to the manufacturer of the mobile urinal used in Amsterdam, 30 of the units put out by the city authorities each Friday night ''normally contain over 10,000 litres of urine'' by Sunday morning.
Each unit can be used by four men at a time and has a 450-litre holding tank, enough for ''about 1500 individual pees''.
The City of Sydney could not provide data on how many litres of urine were typically flowing through the alleys and gutters of Kings Cross and Oxford Street on weekend nights but that may change with the four-week trial, due to begin on April 15.
The city's late night economy manager, Suzie Matthews, said: "The city faces huge clean-up bills after each weekend and cleaning-up this disgusting mess costs ratepayers more than $7 million a year.''

I am getting sick and tired of councils having to make allowances for men who can't stop pissing in the streets.
It is easier for men to NOT piss than women. Where are the facilities for the bladder-weakened women then?

Women who have had children have poorer control, in the most part.

I don't think I want to know how or where it all gets dumped. Even one that tips over by accident...

That's a terrible angle. How's one supposed to sit?
So this guy goes into the toilet at the bar and pees all over his trousers. He goes back to his buddy and says "The wife's gonna kill me". His buddy says "Look do you have $10? You do? Good. Stick it in your shirt pocket and when you get home tell your wife that I was standing next to you in the toilet and I peed all over the place and gave you $10 to get the trousers cleaned". So the drunk goes home and sure enough his wife's waiting for him
"Look at the state of you - drunk and peed all over your clothes"
"Wait wait" he says "Bill did it. He peed all over me and gave me $10 to compensate. See here in my shirt pocket"
"But that's $20" she says
"Well he crapped in my pants as well"

So that's about 300ml per pee. A pretty reasonable estimate. When I did forensic chemistry I provided the pee for the blank and control samples we used for calibrating the methods we used to test for drugs/alcohol in pee ( I also provided the blood for the same reasons for testing blood samples I had to walk about 2 blocks to a clinic where we had an arrangement and give up a few test tubes of the red). Based on that a 'pretty full pee' was about 500ml and with 'some discomfort' I could produce about 800mls.

The areas they are talking about have no room for trees. Most trees will not absorb 10,000 liters of urine over a weekend. The rest of the urine would run all over the pavement requiring cleaning. Kings Cross already has a large park. Men piss near pubs and up alleys. There certainly isn't any room there to plant trees. The smell would remain overbearing, as we do not plant trees with a large area of dirt around them for wee- absorption.
That might be a solution that you can get away in some underdeveloped areas but it won't cut the mustard in Paris or Sydney and I dare say New York or London. Sorry Lo, try again.

A shame, this valley has always loved trees;

Many of us continue to host fruit trees in our yards too. It still is "the Valley of Heart's Delight" - but it is also, now, Silicon Valley.
...and pee isn't a problem.
