Cheese comes in all shapes, sizes and flavours but this creation may not curry favour with lovers of the savoury snack.

Ex-Blur bassist Alex James, already an award winner for some of his cheese, has dreamt up unusual creations using curry, tomato ketchup and sweet chilli.

His Little Wallop, a goat's chees wrapped in a vine leaf and soaked in cider brandy, won at the British Cheese Awards in 2008.

But the cheesemaker who helped with that creation said he may struggled to achieve the same impact with tikka masala cheese.

Juleit Harbutt, who founded the awards, told the Independent: 'It's a bit tricky because Alex and I have made cheese together in the past - but nothing like this lot.

'There's so much potential for fabulous cheeses that I was surprised Alex decided to go down this route.'

The Alex James Presents line will go on sale in Asa stores from Monday, and also includes salad cream and spring onion slices.

Mr James, who owns a farm in the Cotswolds, said: 'It's definitely cheese, but not as the nation knows it.

'Seeing it stocked in Asda will give me a big kick.'

Jeremy Bowen, of cheese sellers Paxton and Whitfield, told the newspaper: 'Alex has gone for these hot-damn funky cheese slices that you can put in a sarnie or a toastie or a jacket potato, and I suppose I'm thinking "why the hell not?".

'What Alex is trying to do is just reach people, and that means everybody out there.'

That sounds interesting. My mum is coming over in a few months. I'll see if she can find some for me...
