A globetrotting pensioner has completed a 61,000-mile journey which took him from Ipswich to.... Ipswich.
Alex Nunn, 65, set off on an unusual odyssey to visit seven places around the world with the same name as his hometown, taking him from Britain to Canada, America, Australia and even Jamaica
Funnily enough. I once visited Llanelly in Victoria Aus, same name as my birth town, for the same reason. The local rag back home even published photos and an article on my visit!
Is there a Llanelli or Llanelly in the US?

I don't think there's more than one Simsbury (the town I grew up in). And if I recall correctly, when the town had its 300th b-day (1970), they couldn't find out why it was call Simsbury! You'd think it was named after someone named Sims, but they couldn't find anyone in the records.
Simsbury Named to Money's Best Place to Live List

Simsbury has once again ranked in the top 100 of Money's Best Places to Live report. The rankings are based on broad statistical data, evaluating towns with populations between 8,500 and 50,000 on factors including job growth, home affordability, safety, school quality, health care, arts and leisure, diversity, and several ease-of-living criteria. Data on the economy, including fiscal strength of state and local government, jobs, housing, and schools, is weighted most heavily.
"This honor from CNNMoney affirms what Simsbury residents already know," says First Selectman Mary Glassman. "Together as a community we have created a place where today's families can live, work, and play, while preserving Simsbury's centuries-old charm."
CNNMoney says: Twenty-five minutes from Hartford, this charming, fiscally conservative New England community attracts residents with its top-rated schools and vibrant downtown. Founded in 1670, Simsbury values historical preservation while also encouraging development. During the summer, residents enjoy the Talcott Mountain Music Festival, which features outdoor performances by the Hartford Symphony. The town is also home to the International Skating Center of Connecticut, at which such Olympians as Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen have trained. In finalizing the list, Money visited towns and interviewed residents, and assessed traffic, parks, and gathering places, and considered intangibles like community spirit.
And Gob.....I give that guy props for what he's done!
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
I left because I was 22, had dropped out of college, and was living with my parents. It was February, I got laid off from my job, my car died and we had two freezing rainstroms in a month that shut down the entire state. (Did I mention that I was 22 and living with my parents?) I had a friend living in San Luis Obispo, CA (another wonderful smallish town) who invited me out for a visit. I got on the train, and never looked back. Been in CA for over 30 years now, and although I love New England, I do NOT miss the winters!

There's country song there, just waiting to be written!
