thank god there are still good people in the world.

Onlookers gaped in disbelief as bystanders rushed to lift a burning car from a stunned motorcyclist pinned beneath it after a near-fatal collision.

"I'm just very thankful for everyone that helped me out," biker Brandon Wright told The Associated Press from his hospital bed. "They saved my life."

Authorities said Wright, 21, was riding his motorcycle near the Utah State University campus in Logan when he collided with a black BMW pulling out of a parking lot.

The video of this heroic act shows that it was much a much bigger deal than it might appear in print. That mesh of car and motorcycle was burning out of control

The word, "Hero," is much abused in our culture. A hero is someone who seeks to help others at his (her) own risk.

These people were heroes.

I was being somewhat facetious, but then out of curiosity looked it up - and the population of Logan, it turns out, is 95% Mormon. Who'da thunk it? ;)

I'm jealous, Sue - I've heard great things about that show on NPR. In particular, I've heard that Mormons like it!

Mormons are better Christians than almost all putative 'Christians'. They don't fuck your children, for a start.

Except for the splinter group ones that take multiple child brides, at least.

I wasn't attacking Mormons. I've known some very nice ones, in fact.

That being said, Warren Jeffs is an example of a Mormon who fucks children and depends on religion to justify it. Just sayin'. Religious freaks of all stripes equally earn my contempt.

With all due respect:

"Many Mormons are better 'christians' than many people who profess to be Christians."

Theologically, the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are about as close to orthodox Christianity (c.f. The Nicene Creed) as they are to Rastafarianism. One of the more interesting aspecs of LDS is their perpetual campaign to conceal how bizarre their theology and beliefs are, and to make outsiders believe they are "just another Christian church."

The LDS church is a cult.

No more, no less.
