Do you wear a watch anymore?
Do you wear a watch anymore?
As I'm packing and uncovering things I forgot I had I've come across a couple wrist watches that I never wear any more due to always having my cell phone with me. and I was wondering if the wide spread use of cell phones is spelling the death of the wrist watch.

Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I've always worn a watch. You can't take a cell phone with you everywhere (or have it on, anyway).

I didn't vote, as the option 'often, but not always' wasn't available.
My only watch is on a bracelet of stones set in sterling silver - Native American handiwork that I stumbled on at a dirt-cheap price in a little shop in Roswell, NM. I wear it for the loveliness more than the timepiece, as I generally always have either cell phone or Palm available to check the time.

I have never worn one at work as I have always worked in construction or related field, and consider them to be a safety hazard and uncomfortable. I wear a very expensive watch to business meetings, certain occasions and to go out. This 'functional jewelry' is strictly for aesthetics. I predominately use my cell phone the rest of the time.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

THis poll is mostly to divine wether the rise of the cell phone changed your watch wearing habits so I crafted the answers to that end.
so if it was always aesthetic I'd answer "never" or if it was functional but now purely aesthetic I'd answer"Not anymore since I always have a cell phone with me"

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I didn't stop wearing a watch because I got a cell phone, but when since my last watch broke a few years ago, I haven't gotten around to getting a new one because I have made do with the cell phone I almost always have with me. But what I've noticed is that I'm much less prone to be checking the time than I used to be now that I have to fish a phone out of my pocket to do it. So I don't tend to miss not knowing the time even when I leave the house without it.

I always wear a watch. It's not always apropriate to pull out a cell phone, like in a meeting, to check the time. Some companies I visit don't allow them in because of the camera and try buying one without a camera.
Plus cell phone coverage is not always available.

Never worn a watch ever. And my phone is normally flat in in any case.

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I gave up wearing a watch back in 1985. I had mine in for repair and I realized how often I was looking at my wrist. I didn't really want to look at my wrist that often, so I didn't put it back on again.
Bah!

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I always wear a watch and the poll did not give an option the allows for not having a cell phone. I have a cell phone but do not always carry it or have it on.

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I got my first real watch (a Timex) for my 6th birthday and ever since have always worn a watch. If I am without one it just feels wrong - 30+ years of habit die hard. Who can be arsed fumbling for a phone every time you need to know the time?

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I live a scheduled life and with a watch you just turn your hand over and get the time.
I have to take a cell phone out of a pocket.

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
Like Timster, I stopped wearing a watch, when I started working full-time as a welder. Too many things to snag it on, and the early digital watches went loco when exposed to High freq waves, anywayZ. For a while. I would wear a watch on my belt loop (you've seen belt watches; their face is upside down, so when you lifted it from your belt to check the time, it was right side up.) ...only wearing a wristwatch when I was in uniform. (One with a green, lite-up face so you could read it in the dark.)
Later, not at first, a cell phone could do all those things, and not get zapped by weld rays either. For durability, I always choose a flip-phone, 'cause a closed cover is stronger for what I put my crap through.

LMAO - Then the option you need is:
"always sometimes with, sometimes without cell phone. Depends on whether or not I bring it with me and whether or not it's switched on. I have a really cool ringtone BTW, it's a frog doing an impression of a motorcycle starting up. The kids gave it to me on my birthday last year. I got a lot of nice presents for my birthday. I remember when I was 6 I got a cowboy outfit for my birthday. It had a hat, gun and holster, waistcoat and sheriff's badge. The badge was made of tin. They're all plastic these days. Mind you, everything seems to be made of plastic these days including my cell phone... which I don't always have with me so if I don't answer it means that I've either left it at home or not switched it on. Mainly because I want to kill that fucking frog!"

Re: Do you wear a watch anymore?
I feel naked without a watch. I keep a cheapie spare in my car for the odd day when I forget to put one on before leaving for work, and I don't want to feel compelled to go out and buy one at the nearest drugstore.
