I admit to guessing about the mince pies and being lucky, but I knew the conversion because my favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe is in a large, old and tattered book called "My First Cookbook". It was given it as a Christmas present by my younger brother two years before he died. We hadn't changed to metric in those days, so I regularly do the conversions.
(I must add here that I never actually follow the recipe, I used it to remind myself of the percentages of content weights I need to take into consideration before I don't follow the recipe. I make my Chocolate and Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies and I always think of my brother when I make them.)
