Canberra has opted to retain its Family and Community Day public holiday after receiving the overwhelming thumbs-up from local residents and business groups.
The ACT government set up public consultations earlier this year to consider the future of the public holiday, including possible plans to scrap it.
But it was given overwhelming support in more than 1,000 submissions, although the majority agreed it should not clash with other public holidays.
As a result, the government will move to make Family and Community Day a permanent fixture of the local calendar, but will adjust the date annually.
The holiday will fall on November 3 in 2009, September 27 in 2010, October 10 on 2011 and October 8 the following year.
It was installed in 2007 to give Canberrans an extra day to spend with their loved ones
Ha! F&C? Family and Community? Ha!
Hatch is with her dad, Hen's laid low with a cricked neck, I've got a stinking head cold, and I'm rostered into work today!
F&C day? Stick it!

Effn' C Day", darling. You're not pronouncing it correctly.
(Makes more sense than calling it a "Bank Holiday".)

Too bloody right.
Mrs Moaning Thomas there. "Woe, woe, woe. I have to work and they are paying me "time and a half", but it is a lovely day!"
Well what about ME!
Yes, I know. You recognized me in your 'cricked neck' comment.
Well MY 'cricked neck' means I am spending "Effn' C Day" in pain, in bed without even my daughter to get me a cuppa or keep me company.
"Effn' C Day" my arse.

Those are to make up for the fact that we don't get a holiday for the Queen's birthday or for St George/David's Day* Hen.
*The Scots can get fucked. They already get a public holiday for St Andrew's Day... the bastards!

Then they should be so named. "The Holiday for Not Recognising St David's Day".
I like calling a 'spade' a spade and I hate the fucking Banks and refuse to recognise a holiday in their name.
Better yet, take the rights days off and truly recognize your Patron Saints.. Why aren't you?

Oh sorry, hard feelings over that still.

It's not good to be seen as too patriotic in the UK these days.
I have known cases where people have been told to take down the flag of St George on St George's day as they may cause offence to non-English people*.
*This actually happened to a neighbour of mine who had the gall to hang the flag from his bedroom window. The bastard!

Well that's just lunacy.
How to destroy the morale of a country; don't let them celebrate who they are.
If this was an action taken against a section of immigrants, there would be outrage.

Well Effn' C Day has come and gone.
The was buggar-all Eff for me as Gob was at work til just before I went to sleep. And I saw no evidence of C in my day.
Today I am meant to go to the Chiropractor before I wend my way to work. Half of me hopes she gives me a chit for today so I don't have to go to work.
I could then have a delayed Effn' C day, cause Gob won't be going in thanks to a crappy head cold. If we both stay home, we could be Familying all day long.
