He could quite rightly be described as the Queen of Australia.Music industry legend Molly Meldrum has undergone surgery overnight to relieve swelling on his brain after he fell from the roof while putting up Christmas decorations at his Richmond home.
The 65-year-old remains in a critical condition in The Alfred hospital this morning surrounded by family and friends.
He is believed to have been putting up decorations for a party this Sunday when he fell several metres from the roof, hitting his head on tiles next to his spa.
His gardener is believed to have found him lying unconscious on the ground, not breathing, with swelling to the brain, multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung.
A spokesman for The Alfred this morning said Meldrum remained in a critical condition, but he could not provide further details about his surgery or prospects of a full recovery.
Meldrum's brother Brian is among those keeping a vigil at his bedside.
