UniSex Basic Adult Fitness Test
UniSex Basic Adult Fitness Test
You may not need a gym membership if you can pass these everyday health tests. See how many you can answer "yes" to:
#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up? (If you woke up at 7 a.m., you should still feel awake and active at 9 p.m.)
I get up at 6 and basically run out of gas around 10:30 or 11:00pm. Check.
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
No problem. Check
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
Can’t jump due to leg issues. My heart races after a couple minutes of stair climbing (much more than ten jumps), which is appropriate. Check.
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
I couldn’t do this on the best day of my life. I think this question is a “gimme” for the females in the reading audience. No check.
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
Sure. Check.
#6 Can you: Twist and look behind you without moving your feet?
As a golfer I always work on this rotational flexibility. No problem. Check.
#7 Can you: Load your luggage into the storage bin above your airplane or train seat without strain?
No problem. Check.
#8 Can you: Carry a large basket of clothing up and down two staircases, without struggle or strain?
I will be breathing hard, but sure. Check.
#9 Can you: Dance to a fast beat for more than 10 minutes without feeling winded?
What is “winded”? Unable to continue? Nah. Check.
#10 Can you: Walk for 30 minutes straight without getting tired?
Do it (and much, much more) all the time. Check.
This bar is set fairly low. I got nine out of ten. Is this a reasonable measure of adult fitness?
This apparently originated in Readers' Digest.

"Winded" means out of breath Dave...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Exactly! Me too! (OTOH, once I get that over with I'm normally fine for the next 14, 16, even 18 hours.)Sean wrote:#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up? (If you woke up at 7 a.m., you should still feel awake and active at 9 p.m.)

Most of the rest of Sean's answer's apply to me too--especially #9. The question of how long I could dance without feeling winded would be utterly hypothetical, since long before then I would feel--and look--so ridiculous that I would probably be carted away in an ambulance on suspicion of having some sort of seizure.

Up at 5:30am. Usually going til 8:30 pm. Then I can usually sit for five and think of me. Strangely enough, I am also usually asleep thirty minutes later when I turn around and do the same again.
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
I can easily carry 20 kilos in each hand for some distance.
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
Easy-peasy..
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
Yes. This is a particularly stupid way to cut toe-nails though and I wouldn't do it.
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
Over head.

Yes.

#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up? (If you woke up at 7 a.m., you should still feel awake and active at 9 p.m.)
Usually up by 5:15 or 5:30 and not in bed till 11pm.
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
Yup, that's how I usually come from the market; either that or a full grocery sack.
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
Jumping-jacks (usually thirty) are part of the calisthenics I do with the BF's kids. Coach Rudy had you work out in minutes, not counts, so I did jumping jacks in two minute intervals.
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
Yup, toe-touching is a yoga move the kids and I do too.
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
Yes, and kick pretty hard too.
#6 Can you: Twist and look behind you without moving your feet?
Yep do it every day on the bike; well, my feet are moving, but pedaling forward.
#7 Can you: Load your luggage into the storage bin above your airplane or train seat without strain?
'Cha, load my bike every day in the train rack.
#8 Can you: Carry a large basket of clothing up and down two staircases, without struggle or strain?
No problemo
#9 Can you: Dance to a fast beat for more than 10 minutes without feeling winded?
I feel great; I like to move it-move it!
#10 Can you: Walk for 30 minutes straight without getting tired?
All the time. Did it today, for 60 min [after I worked on the yard] and it was 96º

Re: UniSex Basic Adult Fitness Test
OK, seriously this time:
#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up?
I almost never wake up "energized." I've been mostly working nights, so I get up in the mid-to-late afternoon, and it usually takes an hour or two (and a mug or two of coffee) before I'm really ready to go, but I'm frequently still fully alert and functional at 6 or 8 AM the next day. When I don't get enough sleep for several days in a row, I have to get some extra sleep in order to catch up, then I'm fine.
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
Easily.
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
No problem.
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
Same as Sean: "Why the hell would I even try to do that? I'm guessing no."
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
Not something I would normally ever do, but I just tried it and it was easy.
#6 Can you: Twist and look behind you without moving your feet?
Sure.
#7 Can you: Load your luggage into the storage bin above your airplane or train seat without strain?
That's easy. (It helps that I'm 6 ft. tall...so I'm usually the one helping several short people load their luggage too.)
#8 Can you: Carry a large basket of clothing up and down two staircases, without struggle or strain?
Easily; I do it (and the equivalent, i.e., heavy boxes of things other than clothing) all the time.
#9 Can you: Dance to a fast beat for more than 10 minutes without feeling winded?
See my answer in my earlier post; my answer to #4 also applies.
#10 Can you: Walk for 30 minutes straight without getting tired?
No problem. I don't do so quite as often as I used to, but when I do it's still quite easy.

#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up? (If you woke up at 7 a.m., you should still feel awake and active at 9 p.m.)
Sure, with enough sugar and caffeine.
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
No, but I can lift a schooner of beer to my mouth, and then a second with the other hand.
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
I'm not sure. What does 'race' mean? I don't feel like having a heart attack, so I didn't try.
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
No. I tried, but I think I heard a popping sound from my leg.
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
No, I think I snapped my fucking hamstring on your last 'test'!
#6 Can you: Twist and look behind you without moving your feet?
Not anymore. This leg of mine is pretty sore.
#7 Can you: Load your luggage into the storage bin above your airplane or train seat without strain?
Possibly, if I could see the bin though the tears. My leg feels like fire right now.
#8 Can you: Carry a large basket of clothing up and down two staircases, without struggle or strain?
Who the fuck has a laundry room two fucking flights of stairs away? I fell down the stairs trying the one flight I have. My good leg may be broken.
#9 Can you: Dance to a fast beat for more than 10 minutes without feeling winded?
Someone please call 911. I am stuck at the bottom of the fucking stairs here, I don't think anyone can hear me!
#10 Can you: Walk for 30 minutes straight without getting tired?
Jesus Christ, I can't use my fucking legs right now! Somebody help me! The bone has broken through the skin, and I think I'm going to pass out from loss of bloo

Personally, I don’t believe in bros before hoes, or hoes before bros. There needs to be a balance. A homie-hoe-stasis, if you will.

Beat this!!
The world's oldest female bodybuilder wakes up every day at 02:30 to fit in a 10 mile (16km) run before hitting the gym.
But 75-year-old Ernestine Shepherd insists that "age is nothing but a number".
"Miss Ernie", as she is known in the world of competitive bodybuilding, began training at the tender age of 71.
She says her true calling in life, however, is helping others to follow a more healthy lifestyle.
The BBC caught up with her at an exercise class at her church in the US city of Baltimore, Maryland, to find out why she started bodybuilding.

When I am 71 , I will give it a try too and maybe I can make a late run on her records?
Bah!

#1 Do you: Feel energized for 14 hours after waking up? (If you woke up at 7 a.m., you should still feel awake and active at 9 p.m.)
I wake up around 530, try and stay in bed until 6 or 630, and am usually asleep around 10 or 1030. I can stay up much later with the appropriate inticements
#2 Can you: Carry large containers of milk or water in each hand, without feeling strain?
Does carrying my boobs every day count? Albeit they are not in my hands (thank god).
#3 Can you: Jump up and down 10 times, without causing your heart to race?
My knees say no. My heart says yes.
#4 Can you: Trim your toenails standing up-without any discomfort from the bending?
Not even after 20 years of yoga practice. I'm just not built that way.
#5 Can you: Raise your foot as high as your hip when kicking?
Of course.
#6 Can you: Twist and look behind you without moving your feet?
This I can do. One of my favorite asanas is a seated twist.
#7 Can you: Load your luggage into the storage bin above your airplane or train seat without strain?
Yes.
#8 Can you: Carry a large basket of clothing up and down two staircases, without struggle or strain?
I don't have two staircases (no basement). And I'm excellent at carrying laundry up and down. Folding it and putting it away is a different question . . .
#9 Can you: Dance to a fast beat for more than 10 minutes without feeling winded?
Yes please, I love to dance!
#10 Can you: Walk for 30 minutes straight without getting tired?
Do it most mornings.
