American shooter Kim Rhode shot a perfect final round Sunday afternoon to win the gold and become the first U.S athlete in an individual sport to win five medals in five consecutive Olympics.
With her final score of 99, Rhode equaled the world record held by Slovakia's Danka Bartekova, who earned the bronze. The near perfect round also set a new Olympic record.
Upon hitting her final two targets, Rhode broke out in a wide grin and pumped her right fist to the roaring crowd. There was plenty of American support at the Royal Artillery Barracks.
Wei Ning of China earned silver.
During morning prelims, she also set an Olympic record, hitting 74 of 75 targets . Italy's Chiara Canero set the previous record of 72 in 2008.
Rhode won golds in double trap in 1996 and 2004, a silver in skeet in 2008 and a bronze in double trap in 1996.
