Would you like some product with that receipt?

When did store receipts get so ridiculously long? I just bought two small yogurts, a banana and an apple; the receipt is 15 inches long. Three inches describes the transaction including payment, and there is a foot of useless information. This was Safeway, but I get the same thing at more and more stores. Remember when stores tried to make receipts as small as possible so they wouldn't have to keep reloading the paper rolls?

Why do we get them at all?

Although at Coles supermarket here you get "4c off a litre of petrol" vouchers at the end of each receipt, for use in their petrol stations.

The worst one is Radio Shack....

Every time I go there and, buy one small item, (a cord, a battery charger, a headset, etc.) I get a receipt as long as a roll of toilet paper....

At the grocery store, I see a lot of ads and coupons on the back of the receipt, so the reason in that case may be that the receipt has become an advertising revenue stream for the super market chains...

At Radio Shack, it's just a bunch of small print gobbledygook.....

"The Good Guys" hereabouts, want your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and inside leg measurement before they will issue your A 4 sized receipt!

Bought a pack of cigarettes in CVS and got about 15 inches of reciept. I did say something (not nasty) to the clerk, but she alerted me to the discounts and free-bees on the bottom of the reciept good the next time I came in and made a purchase.
Supermarkets I can see a long reciept as there are many individual items bought and I have found their "extra" crap on the reciept to be at a minimum with the back full of coupons.

Forget KMart and Sears. One item, 1 foot of reciept, non of which is useful other than bought, money paid and change due.
