London the best worst city

London may have put on a cheerful face during the Olympics but tourists have still rated the city poorly in terms of friendliness, cleanliness and value for money, a survey has shown.

Of 40 cities worldwide, London this year ranked second to last for the friendliness of its locals, according to a poll by travel website TripAdvisor.

Only Moscow fared worse, while Mexico's Cancun ranked first.

Britain's capital barely performed better in the nine other categories of the poll, ranking 28th for safety, 26th for cleanliness and 35th for best value for money.

On the upside, London was rated fourth best city for shopping - behind New York City, Bangkok and Dubai - and fifth for the quality of taxi services.

The study was based on responses from 75,000 TripAdvisor users surveyed last month.

"While London hasn't ranked particularly highly by those that have reviewed the city this year, it's important to remember that many of the respondents may have experienced London before major changes were made or post the events of the summer," said Emma Shaw, a spokeswoman for TripAdvisor.

London was still voted the best city in the world in TripAdvisor's 2012 Travellers Choice Awards, Shaw noted.
"This study perhaps proves that even a great city isn't going to be perfect in every way," she said.

Londoners aren't friendly? Who'da thunk it?

London would also be bottom of the UK charts for friendliness...

London cab drivers know where they're going. Unlike Paris. I had to translate a (french language) cab driver's guide to DeGaulle airport for a driver who had been driving in Paris for > 10 years. Of course London is such a shithole of bad city design you nearly always start out going SE if your destination is NW.

On the other hand, the only hard-working Londoners we ever saw were Italian. Hotels, restaurants, &c. Nearly all of the hard-working Parisians we saw were French.

London = city of sloths and the worst urban design in the G-20.

London, Republicans, Australians & Reagan

Cars that have not been assembled by Asians

These are a few of my least favorite things...

When my wife calls

And I wake up

And I'm really mad

I simply remember my least favorite things

And then I don't feel.....

Soooooo bad..........

I can't take a survey that lists Cancun as having the "friendliest locals" seriously; unless friendly is defined as incessantly accosting you to sell something (from counterfeit cuban cigars to genuine mexican crafts made in malaysia). I realize they have to make a living--but I didn't find it friendly, just annoying. Id much rather be in London (or Brussells, for that matter).
