Soccer Player Actually Learns A Useful Skill....

Post by Lord Jim »

Shocking, I know, but here's the story:
Jets Gave Norwegian Soccer Player Tryout as Kicker Based on YouTube Submission

The Jets may need a lot of help to improve, but one position they seem set is at kicker, relying on Nick Folk‘s leg for three years now. However, a couple days ago the Jets gave a tryout to a Norwegian soccer player by the name of Harvard Rugland — who the team had previously sent to San Diego to work out with a kicking coach. But how did Rugland get the tryout in the first place? Well, that would be because of the video below. Rugland sent the YouTube-compiled collection of trick shots to the Jets (hilariously titled “Kickalicious”), including kicking footballs 60 yards through the uprights, [an impressive punter, to] and apparently New York liked what it saw. No word on how the tryout went as of yet, but you can check out Rugland’s skills in the video below.

Since this story was written, it's been announced that Rugland has been invited back for another session. I'm sure everyone here joins me in wishing Harvard well in his quest to win a playing position in a top tier professional sport. (There have been some claims that the video is faked, but if this guy didn't have the skills, the Jets wouldn't be inviting him back.)

Here's the video (pretty impressive):
