Any of us feeling the burden of a few extra festive pounds know all too well that January is diet season.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if there really were a quick fix to weight loss? Living in the 21st century, we have access to an array of high-tech weight loss gizmos and gadgets that claim to be effective - for better or for worse.
But for the fitness fanatics living in the 1970s, technology wasn't always on their side.
Judging by these hilarious pictures, weightloss aids four decades ago were a little more bizarre.
And then Van Halen came along, and everything changed.

The sauna suit was used extensively by the guys on our wrestling team in high school to get down to their match weight on the day of a match. Of course it was all water weight and as soon as weigh-in was done they rehydrated.
Wonder if in twenty years todays "gimmicks" will be ridiculed? Zumba anyone?

Dancer-size a few years before that?
Just because nice butts engage in it doesn't mean they won't turn into the middle-age-spread when the fad is gone.
